Thread for the general discussion of The Blood Raider Covenant

To quote from the above-linked wiki:

Quote from: Evelopedia
The Blood Raider Covenant is a particularly gruesome sect of the generally reviled Sani Sabik cult. While all modern Sani Sabik rituals use blood in some manner or another, the Covenant places particular value on the blood of cloned humans, and is utterly ruthless in obtaining it, regularly boarding other spacecraft and abducting all aboard. From their base in Delve they launch lightning raiding parties and surprisingly well co-ordinated incursions deep into empire space in pursuit of their goals.

The Blood Raider Covenant's only sub-faction/corporation is Blood Raiders whose CEO is Grand Master Omir Sarikusa, the supreme leader of The Blood Raider Covenant.

Besides the general overview of each faction, what makes it stand out ? What will someone expect in RPing that faction ? What will be the challenges, the difficulties, the rewards, ? What is important to keep in mind ? What is the internal political spectrum, and subfactions ? What are the most important milestones of its history ?

Although we have a general overview of The Blood Raider Covenant here, most of the day to day aspects of living as a Blood Raider are covered in-game or in books you have to buy.

You put some serious work into this! It looks great & will simplify things for me when I need to look up things about the Blood Raiders in case an article of mine relates to them.

This bit might be of interest of you: Cult of the Lash It's a splinter group of the Blood Raiders, mentioned in a mission. Their faith seems to be more centered around pain rather then blood.

Also, just a little tidbit from Source: it also retconned that Omir replaced the use of children with clones and instead says that he merely added clones to the preferred list alongside children.

No where in the links of the original post, besides those of player fiction, is the red god mentioned either. Which seems to be an important thing for Sani Sabik and Blood Raiders in the books. There is no mention of red god in-game as far as I can tell either. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Also, since we are on the subject of what EVE: Source has said about certain things. It also states that there is no need to believe in red god or anything supernatural to be Sani Sabik or Blood Raider. And as for bleeding children along side clones, it is said that all Sani Sabik must donate their blood to the Covenant for use in science, religious ritual, and for making blood-based foodstuffs which the Blood Raiders and loyal Sani Sabik subsist on for nourishment.

And yet the whole point of Sani Sabik originally was that there wasn't anything universal.

I like Source but the Blood Raider chapter is shit. They couldn't decide whether they wanted to talk about Blood Raiders or Sani Sabik as a whole, and so just swapped the terms at random throughout the chapter. Personally, I consider Source's chapter to be about Blood Raiders only (afterall, that's what it was intended to describe), and continue to refer to the EVElopedia article for the non-Blood Raider Sani Sabik sects.

It does say that the Red God is a 'universal' for Sabik. And the context of the children reference certainly implies they are targeted under Omir just as much as clones.

Edit: I didn't see Louella's mention of the Red God bit before I posted this...

It doesn't bother me as much because Source clearly says that the term 'Red God' can be interpreted in many different ways. It leaves a huge amount of wiggle room for it to not be an actual deity but instead a reference to a state of being of the Chosen that have the proper respect and use of blood. At least that is how I read it.

I won't quote, but on the next page of EVE: Source, pg. 155. It says that the members of the society of Blood Raiders and thus Sani Sabik have burial rights (which also implies they are physically buried after death) which include writing their names in a Book of the Dead. Then it states that even the members who do not believe in fantastical or intangible aspects of the religion are still part of this society by keeping Sani Sabik alive.

fantastical aspects of the religion would be like, whether Bhaalgorns exist as actual creatures in the physical world.
