And the 'lore' that a single Tau can take on a Titan(!) and a Daemon Lord. Or was it Prince? Naw, wasn't that big. Lord I think. Anyway, a single Tau taking on that and -winning-. Not to mention that the game itself was bad. Well, not directly bad but just below mediocre. Gameplay -and- story was bad.

Single units have taken on demons and won in WH40k lore before now, also it can be done on the table with some epic dice rolling.

I'll admit La'Kais is a bit of a Mary Sue, and it was never confirmed if he's the Commander in Dark Crusade, but it would make sense and try to justify the achievements in Fire Warrior by him being one of the best Tau Fire Warriors out there. Probably would have gone with him instead of Shaserra, if they didn't need a token female character in the Tau race, for the XV22 battlesuit commander unit in the codex.

Or that time someone felled an Orc warboss with a Ratling sniper in hand to hand.

Those dice rolls are the stuff of legend.

Changing the topic slightly...

What do you get if you combine a God Emperor, a bunch of psykers working together, and a huge pile of sandwiches?

I like the implications of Gallentians being punched in the face by walking up to a Minmatar as they so freely use another person's culture as a fad.

That's awful. So awful, in fact, that here's some flamers to purge that abomination of a joke with cleansing fire!

Well, I've finally started my army up. Went with a basic assault marine Blood Angels loadout. I liked it, it netted me a win, loss, and draw in my first three games. But, I think I'm going to let it evolve naturally and see what becomes of it.

My favored unit from my first games is my dear Brother Regulus, Death Company Dreadnought:

Made the base outa some leftover styrene, pretty proud of it. :D

Regulus managed to scythe through a unit of 30 or so Orks including a Mek, explode a Leman Russ, and devour a unit of Dark Eldar after taking two penetrating Dark Lance shots - one Shaken and one Stunned, both ignored due to DC Dread special rules.

I'm going for a Death Company pure list next. It's all the fun of Blood Angels, without having to worry about stupid things like "objectives."

Why thank you! Its one of the first models I've painted in... gosh, 6 or 7 years I think. I got into GW way back in the day, but the only store was about 2 hours from me... and one day I showed up and it'd been replaced with a makeup store. :c

Now I live in the capital and there's a store 5min away, and I got a few friends interested. Hopefully my all-DC army will see the field soon... just have to decide if I'm going with razorbacks or drop pods to get them into the action.

Next WiP: Chaos Marine with missile launcher. My Havoc squads are still only equipped with 3 heavy weapons (a la 3rd ed rules) so this will fill out at least one squad. The other, with 3 heavy bolters, will have to wait until I... get a 4th heavy bolter CSM.

Pics... eh, screw pics, I'll post when it's done.

After the missile launcher, I figure I'll spray and start working on this:

Damn, son, nice classics. Wish I could get that kind of fine-line work with my models. @_@

This thread makes me want to start up my painting again. I've been hearing whispered promises from the Warp as it is. Traitor Guard are becoming harder and harder to resist as a project. Damn you Slaanesh!

Hellgremlin, I'd have thought Alpha Legion were more your style than Night Lords.

Tempted to use them myself with my Guard idea.

For those of you who follow the 40k stuff digitally... all WH40K games are 66% off this weekend on Steam. Personally, I'd definitely recommend the Space Marine game at that price and the DoW games are fairly well known as well.
