This thread makes me want to start up my painting again. I've been hearing whispered promises from the Warp as it is. Traitor Guard are becoming harder and harder to resist as a project. Damn you Slaanesh!

Hellgremlin, I'd have thought Alpha Legion were more your style than Night Lords.

Tempted to use them myself with my Guard idea.

I thought about Alpha Legion but their paint scheme didn't impress me nearly as much as Night Lords. Oh, and by the way, I was just passing through the warp, and Slaanesh asked me to tell you that if you start playing 40k again, he'll give you like... 50 new nipples.

For those of you who follow the 40k stuff digitally... all WH40K games are 66% off this weekend on Steam. Personally, I'd definitely recommend the Space Marine game at that price and the DoW games are fairly well known as well.

Getting Space Marine demo atm. DoW II Retribution on my want list already, together with the Tau Commander as that is the only DLC I care about really.

Basically, Space Marine fixes all the things that has gone wrong with the Third-Person Shooter genre. It removes the infinite amounts of chest-high walls and all cover mechanics, while still actually having levels where there's places you can go and take cover if you want/need. There's some regenerative armor on you, but your main health bar does not regenerate. To heal yourself? No taking cover or scrounging for health packs or whatever... you wade into combat and execute an enemy with vigor and zeal.

This game gives you good shooter mechanics while keeping good melee mechanics as well. You truly do feel like a Space Marine as you use your Bolter, Plasma Gun, Lasgun, Meltagun or whatever and then seamlessly wade into melee combat with your chainsword, power axe, two-handed power hammer or whatever. You don't experience war as a Space Marine. You ARE war.

You'll fight hordes of orcs (choppas, shootas, rocket boys and everything), vicious demons, psykers, orc warboss, nobs and so on and so forth. You'll supercharge a Titan and go toe to toe with the forces of chaos. This Forgeworld stands or falls with you.

Sounds like a modern day version of Doom.

I approve.

The meltagun is the most satisfying FPS weapon I've ever fired. And it's amazing in multiplayer too.

How can I turn down such an offer? 50!? And with them being Slaaneshi nipples they'd be all the better to distract myself with...

I can't help wonder though that with suggestions of multi-nippled Slaanesh devotees here and "bellybutton-golems" elsewhere maybe you've been keeping too much company with unlucky Chaos spawns

Anyone here play DoW2, or specifically the Last Stand (or just The Last Standalone) perchance?

Getting Myrhial hooked on it and looking for others to have fun with in a world of mass carnage and slaughter  :cube:

Just finished chewing through Space marine in 1.1 sittings (made it to the final boss in first sitting. couldn't kill him. just killed him today).

Ton of fun, although I wish the campaign were longer, I'll have to see what multiplayer is like. I was a little disappointed by the story, it's horribly predictable, especially if you're at all familiar with the Warhammer universe and some basic storytelling tropes.

The gameplay, however, was excellent, except for it's tendency to be sluggish in response (it's a PC game, I want it to respond to my button-pressing immediately). I had a blast tearing through hordes of enemies and delivering the Emperor's justice.

delivering the Emperor's justice.

And for this reason alone I will not get this game. All other reasons not to play it, vote for it as well, but this one in particular. When a game is named after the most over-hyped choir-boys I've seen in most fiction I'll rather wait until a 40k FPS game is created where a non-human non-imperium-loyalist is the main character. I've been thinking of getting Fire Warrior, but from what I've seen that game is not only merely mid-level quality, it breaks 40k lore at several places.

So I will wait. Most likely it will never be made, but one day perhaps a FPS/RPG game is made where the Imperium is not the main focus and who knows, maybe they get theirs for a change. At a bare minimum, it has to cast a member of the Imperial Guard, Sisters of Battle or perhaps even the Daemon Hunters as the 'main' and avoid the hype on Marines.

I won't be holding my breath while I wait.

You know Tau is one of the rumored updates for 6th edition in the middle of this year, right?

You gotta find fewer reasons to complain, gonna make your blood pressure spike.

If you're looking for a shooter, then no shit, this game isn't for you. It's not a shooter.

If your problem is with the space marines, I can empathize - there's a reason I play Chaos and Eldar.

The point is not that you get to deliver the Emperor's wrath - afaik, the Emp isn't even mentioned. The point is that the game makes doing it fun - if you're into hack and slash. The story is terrible, I won't even argue that, and the voices of the enemies constantly yelling that they're going to kill you are obnoxious, but the core gameplay is excellent.

and avoid the hype on Marines.

You may need to find a different universe. GW has made the space marines the ultimate war machines. They've done an excellent job with the written fiction of demonstrating that they are still human (and you see a bit of that in the game), they make mistakes, they turn to Chaos and engulf the galaxy in war, that sorta thing. But they are still the gods of war, towering over their human allies, cutting a bloody swathe through lesser foes. Even in games where you play as other characters, even in fiction written from other perspectives (Gaunt's Ghosts, The Last Chancers), the Space Marines are still treated with awe and fear.

If that's such a problem, then you may need to find a different universe.

Very late in the day, but I have Retribution.  Don't often play it now - single-player is depressingly repetitive, core multiplayer is a hole of screaming hatred and bile even worse than League of Legends for the newbie, and Last Stand is fun... but other things have been occupying me :P
