I thought it was frank and gave an interesting inside perspective.

On a different note, it brought Ken back to the forums so that gives it a big +1 in my book.

Just hoping that he will walk the walk instead of just talking the talk.

The CSM sure has a few egoists, but I would personally consider it rather useful. Always better to have some bittervets yelling at their faces than just shitposting in EVE-O. I bet it doesn't really make a dent to CCP finances compared to, say, the marketing budget. (Because face it - the CSM has a marketing role, as well.)

As a new player, what I see as the biggest problem is CCP overextending and underdelivering. We've all heard the rhetoric about both of those these past few months.

Whether or not Hilmar intends to do anything isn't as relevant as whether he can to anything without killing either DUST 514 or WoD development. Both of those are horrific from a business perspective, as DUST 514 is already recieving awards and media coverage, and WoD is part of a contract signed when CCP bought White Wolf. I suspect if they kill WoD, they'll have to rework the purchase of WW, or maybe sell it. I'm not sure how it works, but... Hilmar is backed into a corner financially, imho.

With all I've heard about how hard it is to push seemingly simple features out the door lately.. not enough devs, not enough time, not enough money (spoken: that isn't something we're looking into), or whatever. There are a LOT of things behind left behind, and I don't think it's unwillingness to develop EVE as much as it is an inability to.

I think CCP is in the hole. I don't know if Hilmar can dig them out without sacrificing something big.

Reading Hilmar's blog was the second best message of the day.

The best was my wife telling me she is pregnant.

^ Congrats!

As for the topic, I am cautiously optimistic. Will have to blog my extended thoughts about this later. It is a quality of good leadership to be able to admit to the public that you were wrong and realize it. Here's to the action continuing. I seriously hope though that CCP will revisit more things than what is on Zulu's list. There is old content, like COSMOS, which needs some finishing. Or simply edit it so that there is no hint at missions which never were made, and give it closure. (And while we're at it, I still want pirate NPC's to stop shooting those with +5.00 faction to them.)

I consider the message legit. We'll have to see what they deliver this winter, but judging from the list it looks like there's a lot of things that were critized for a long time.

Disagreed. You see this in every MMO when there's a long time between releases. CCP is as stranded as the game is 'totally broken'.

I would say that CCP has its feet back on the ground rather than being up in the clouds where they were launched into when the (Icelandic) banking bubble was still going. A lot of visions were made during those days, and they had the resources to get away with it. Things are slowly recovering, and I see the hiring of new people as a sign of an economical recovery. This is all theorycrafting at best, though, but I think CCP is very well aware now that upsetting your player base (as a whole, no just the vocal minority) is a bad move when you're already suddenly dealing with a whole different business climate. The average player will have less money to spend still, so they will be more critical of where their income goes to. Some of us may shrug about having several paid accounts, but for others it is bits like that which matter at the end of the month.

Easily the most encouraging thing I've seen out of CCP since I started playing about 18 months ago, right before Tyrranis and PI. I saw some of the vids they did about how awesome PI was gonna be, and then I saw the implementation :s and chatted with some of the bittervets and so the story goes.

Since then, it's been the continuing story of "Wow, this is gonna be awesome!" followed by "wtf is this shit?"

Hilmar coming out and saying, "I fucked up, my bad. Here's what we're going to do to fix it:" is awesome in my book.

And as icing on the cake, one of the things he listed as broken was Faction War. Maybe it'll finally get some love.

Thoughts on this?

He's lying.    Eve already has pay to win in the form of plex and based on his previous comments that is exactly how he perceives  it.     He's not been humbled in the least, he's just decided he has to diplomatic for the time being.

Just hoping that he will walk the walk instead of just talking the talk.

EVE has been circling the drain for ages, new ships and promises of fixing mechanics that have been broken for years will not bring it out of that.

I'd rather see them fix existing ships like the Raptor rather than put in new ships that could be the next super caps.

When the EVE community was commenting Hilmar's 'leaked' memo, I was wondering whether his skin has grown so thick in the null sec that he can just shrug it off. I guess it is plausible that this letter of apology is not written by marketing professionals, to some extent.

Anyhow, the message was positive, had his signature, we've seen indications of some actual changes and I hope he's committed to keep the direction he outlined.
