The comments on that article are almost more depressing than the article itself. I can't believe people are actually saying things like "It's the parents fault for letting him play an M rated game" and "Kid was underaged and trash talking, deserved to be beat within an inch of his life"

What the hell is wrong with people?!

I heard a rumor that there was some RL metagaming going on between some big alliances a long time ago. There was supposed to be some big op, and one of the two alliances had a member go and literally cut the power lines to the enemy FC's house so he couldn't organize a counterattack. Dunno how true it was.

Hahaha, I remember that story Kat. I'm not totally sure if it was true either but it's the only thing I could think of comparable to this. A believe a titan was lost as a result.

In no way is it on the same level as an adult man's assault of a 13 year old boy, but it is a felony.

I don't think there has been any media coverage of it... but I'm sure a good portion of people have gotten the smack-talking snot beaten out of them by someone in RL for being a *censored* on EVE to someone that knows them IRL.

Punk kid acted like an up-and-coming Darwin award and someone finally snapped and choked a bitch. Yes, it's a felony and yes the adult should have risen above it. Doesn't make the kid any less of a weaponsgrade douchebottle who had something coming. The parent in question should have done some actual fucking parenting and had a wee glance at the gamebox for the rating and supervised the kid during a few gaming sessions to observe the behaviour, not to mention choked the little bitch like a good Homer Simpson during less than chivalrous acting during online play.

The adult in question needs some time with a therapist and anger management, certainly. I exceedingly rarely condone any kind of violence. Still... I am a firm proponent of Darwin Awards and I sure as hell wouldn't piss off someone twice my size by acting like shit when winning in real life. Why this particular survival instinct goes out the window over the internet I have no fucking clue, but I am for anything that'll wake these little brat kids and their retarded fucking parents up to the point where they realize that the medium of the interaction doesn't excuse rampant stupidity or douchebaggery.

The red imp on my shoulder agrees with this. I can't tell you how many times I have wished this to happen to smacktalkers over the internet.

'One day, someone is going to beat the shit out of you for talking like that.'

As I heard it, the power was cut to the entire section of town for a while, as in someone flipped a switch at the substation for a few mins.

The "power cut to house as metagaming" story originates in one of Mittani's TenTonHammer blog posts. According to Mittani, he refused the request (the theme of the post, IIRC, was "does metagaming in EVE ever cross the line?"). I'll see if I can dig up the exact post.

Regarding the original question... I understand Mirial had a particularly poor reaction to the whole Ubiqua Seraph / GHSC incident and aftermath? That is probably the closest high-profile incident I can think of, though I don't doubt such incidents as described in the article could have happened between people who played EVE together.

I like the implications of Gallentians being punched in the face by walking up to a Minmatar as they so freely use another person's culture as a fad.

The Rote Kapelle TS server was DDOSed during our match vs AAA two tourneys ago as I recall, but we use a separate secret server for the tourney matches anyway.

Both are in fault, no need to argue over this. No one of them was justified in their own acts. And ofc, the mother is right while acting like a biased person by not admitting her son is a moron. I do not see why people on these comments keep arguing over this.

DDOS and things apparently happen quite a lot in the Important Business section of alliance politics. I understand FinFleet once reported a TeamSpeak server hacking issue to the local police. (Can't remember when that happened, but might've been during the Old Southern Coalition vs. Evil Russians times when some alliances still swore to the name of elite PVP and space bushido.)

Nobody is arguing that I can see.
