Universal Timebase Measurement Research event
« on: 06 Jan 2018, 18:46 »

So, here's the full chat transcript of the live event that was today. This includes all of the chatter with other people. The actors interacted with a few people, lots of fun was had. Some stuff was missed out on due to their posting before and after jumping gates. Also because I was murdering a suspect megathron and went a jump ahead.

Lorienne Nesif and Holnar Reniret were the CONCORD people and The Astromancer, Nheil Kharan and Therik Mot were the attackers.

Yellow is the actors, pink is things people said that they directly replied to. To make this hopefully a bit easier to read.

I think I marked everything. But I might have missed stuff. Lots happened after they left, but the local chatter isn't too relevant, so it's not worth including in here. Everything after then(includes chatter from people trying to work things out, might be useful) is at the bottom in a spoiler tag.

CCP_Delegate Zero was in system but not visible in local, he decloaked while the hive fleet was shooting the drifters briefly. I had my UI hidding for pretty explosions reasons and didn't record this.

I recorded all of it, but it's 15gb and many hours long so I'll have to go through and watch it/[REDACT] things. That'll take a long time.

Overall, I'd say this was a good use of nearly twelve hours of my time >.>

[ 2018.01.06 21:02:51 ] Lorienne Nesif > Of course, Mr. Asques. We've let the Gallente government know ahead of time of our work.
[ 2018.01.06 21:03:25 ] Lorienne Nesif > Hello capsuleers. My name is Lorienne Nesif. It is good to meet you all! Thank you for joining us in this event. Today is more than just a science experiment, it is also a celebration of the Yoiul Conference.

 [ 2018.01.06 21:03:38 ] Lyken Des > Wooo
[ 2018.01.06 21:03:39 ] Lorienne Nesif > This year marks the 120th since CONCORD's standard calendar was established at the Yoiul Conference. As some of you might know, the Yoiul Conference itself has its anniversary on June 26.
[ 2018.01.06 21:03:49 ] Lorienne Nesif > Even though that conference established the interstellar calendar we use today, that date doesn't mark the change of the year. Would anyone like to say why this is?

[ 2018.01.06 21:04:06 ] Uriel Paradisi Anteovnuecci > It did always bother me that the establishment date was so offset :P
[ 2018.01.06 21:04:23 ] TrueScans > Submit to Nation! Your calender will set itself straight
 [ 2018.01.06 21:04:25 ] Arrendis > Sentimental inertia, probably.
[ 2018.01.06 21:04:53 ] Lorienne Nesif > Every planet has its own conception of time, and these are still practiced by planet-dwelling citizens to this day. But in this interstellar age, we needed a standardized time that everyone, no matter where you are from, could follow.
 [ 2018.01.06 21:05:16 ] Lyken Des > ahhh
[ 2018.01.06 21:05:18 ] Lorienne Nesif > In every corner of New Eden, we were finding records of a spacefaring civilization before ours. They used a calendar that established a year as 365 24-hour days, divided into 12 months.
[ 2018.01.06 21:05:37 ] Lorienne Nesif > It didn't matter where you were from, or what language the records were in. One calendar, one time. Well, if it worked for them, it would work for us!
[ 2018.01.06 21:05:47 ] Lorienne Nesif > So, you can thank our ancestors for giving us this month of January, and February, and March, and all the rest.

 [ 2018.01.06 21:05:57 ] Uriel Paradisi Anteovnuecci > That fabled Terran ancestral group~
 [ 2018.01.06 21:06:04 ] Lyken Des > ^
[ 2018.01.06 21:06:29 ] Lorienne Nesif > Yes, there are some beliefs they are from Earth.
 [ 2018.01.06 21:06:37 ] Lorienne Nesif > But we don't really know!

[ 2018.01.06 21:06:37 ] Uriel Paradisi Anteovnuecci > "Terran" as fabled is all, though - not much known about that far back
[ 2018.01.06 21:06:49 ] Sahaquiel Faust > Much as I doubt such a place exists. Nice legend thoug.
[ 2018.01.06 21:06:54 ] Lorienne Nesif > Anyway. We are joined today by Dr. Holnar Reniret of Project Discovery. Say hello, Dr. Reniret!
 [ 2018.01.06 21:07:02 ] Holnar Reniret > Oh, right, yes. Ahem... hello.

[ 2018.01.06 21:07:08 ] Khaprice > Hello Dr Reniret!
 [ 2018.01.06 21:07:12 ] Uriel Paradisi Anteovnuecci > indeed~ And Hello, doc
 [ 2018.01.06 21:07:15 ] Phaezen Outamon > o/ Doc
[ 2018.01.06 21:07:18 ] Holnar Reniret > hello to you too, mr Khaprice
 [ 2018.01.06 21:07:18 ] Lasairiona Raske > Hello, Doctor.
 [ 2018.01.06 21:07:23 ] Sahaquiel Faust > Greetings, Doctor.
 [ 2018.01.06 21:07:25 ] Ioannis Sepphiros > Greetings
[ 2018.01.06 21:07:29 ] Lorienne Nesif > Dr. Reniret, would you please let us know what exactly you will be doing today? What is the nature of these tests, and what impact do you think your research will have on New Eden?
 [ 2018.01.06 21:07:39 ] Holnar Reniret > Well, sure.
[ 2018.01.06 21:07:51 ] Holnar Reniret > Ahem, so, as you may know, all timekeeping devices and networks need a measurement of reference that can be easily replicated and is always consistent no matter the place or the time.
[ 2018.01.06 21:08:06 ] Holnar Reniret > The systems that CONCORD and all empires use today work quite finely, but it has been noticed in the last few decades that the sheer dimensions of the space colonized by humanity may cause issues with the measurments of reference.
[ 2018.01.06 21:08:28 ] Holnar Reniret > For example, in the Amarr and Minmatar space the presence of massive nebulas can produce distortions in gravity-based, or even electromagnetic-based measurements.

 [ 2018.01.06 21:08:29 ] Khaprice > /emote coughs
 [ 2018.01.06 21:08:43 ] Kueyen > Shhhhht
[ 2018.01.06 21:08:47 ] Holnar Reniret > Also, it appears that infinitesimal differences in the timespace lattice in different regions of space can also produce very small deviations in almost every kind of precise measurements.
[ 2018.01.06 21:09:05 ] Holnar Reniret > While this is almost unnoticeable for all other intense and purposes, timekeeping references need to be as precise as possible. What we are trying to do today is to test a technology that will allow to have a consistent measurement of reference with
[ 2018.01.06 21:09:23 ] Holnar Reniret > the highest precision ever attempted across not only all New Eden... but hopefully well beyond.

[ 2018.01.06 21:09:25 ] Alen Asques > Does the time swirl the other way on the other side of the planet?
[ 2018.01.06 21:09:33 ] Holnar Reniret > So... yes, that's what we are going to do.
 [ 2018.01.06 21:09:41 ] Lorienne Nesif > Fascinating.

 [ 2018.01.06 21:09:52 ] Francophobia > Hmm.. Interesting.
 [ 2018.01.06 21:09:54 ] Uriel Paradisi Anteovnuecci > Interesting~~
 [ 2018.01.06 21:09:58 ] Ioannis Sepphiros > Indeed
 [ 2018.01.06 21:10:03 ] Mark726 > Uriel Paradisi Anteovnuecci o/
[ 2018.01.06 21:10:08 ] Lorienne Nesif > We've already got one question for you, doctor. What would you say to Mr. Asques
[ 2018.01.06 21:10:09 ] Phaezen Outamon > BY beyond do you mean Anoikis?
[ 2018.01.06 21:10:19 ] Holnar Reniret > Alen Asques no
 [ 2018.01.06 21:10:24 ] Lyken Des > IT's a trap
[ 2018.01.06 21:10:31 ] Ioannis Sepphiros > I always lose sense of time when in Anoikis...
 [ 2018.01.06 21:10:44 ] Pittx > so what is this
[ 2018.01.06 21:10:51 ] Lorienne Nesif > Don't be rude, doctor. You can give more than a single word answer.
[ 2018.01.06 21:11:13 ] Holnar Reniret > Ahem, right. It's an interesting question mr Alen Asques . To which the answer is no.

 [ 2018.01.06 21:11:21 ] Ioannis Sepphiros > /emote smirks
 [ 2018.01.06 21:11:26 ] Lasairiona Raske > /emote arches a brow.
 [ 2018.01.06 21:11:26 ] Lyken Des > Huehue
[ 2018.01.06 21:11:28 ] Lorienne Nesif > /emote sighs. Then puts on a pleasant smile.
 [ 2018.01.06 21:11:32 ] Uriel Paradisi Anteovnuecci > haha
[ 2018.01.06 21:11:34 ] Lorienne Nesif > Well, any other questions?
[ 2018.01.06 21:11:40 ] Valerie Valate > I have a question.
 [ 2018.01.06 21:11:46 ] Lasairiona Raske > Oh gods.
[ 2018.01.06 21:11:50 ] TrueScans > Will you submit to Nation?
[ 2018.01.06 21:12:04 ] Lasairiona Raske > Can we kill the Sansha? Please?
[ 2018.01.06 21:12:07 ] Lorienne Nesif > I can answer that one,  TrueScans . In the doctor's fashion... no.
[ 2018.01.06 21:12:10 ] Naava Edios > I second this
[ 2018.01.06 21:12:18 ] Phaezen Outamon > /emote raises his hand, realises he is in a pod and coughs "I may have a question
[ 2018.01.06 21:12:22 ] Uriel Paradisi Anteovnuecci > Anyone worried about those old 25'ers here?
[ 2018.01.06 21:12:26 ] TrueScans > Then we shall enslave you!
[ 2018.01.06 21:12:40 ] Holnar Reniret > Ahem, alright, so if everything is right now I can start our calculations...
 [ 2018.01.06 21:12:43 ] Lorienne Nesif > 25ers?
 [ 2018.01.06 21:12:53 ] Holnar Reniret > uh?

[ 2018.01.06 21:12:56 ] Xenuk Seti > I would like to know what this is, and if this assists in real research.
 [ 2018.01.06 21:13:05 ] Pittx > ^this
[ 2018.01.06 21:13:05 ] Valerie Valate > Do these experiments have any risk of opening up a dimensional rift that would allow bhaalgorns or other demons to enter our plane of existence ?
[ 2018.01.06 21:13:13 ] Sellith > Time moves slower the closer you are to a big mass right... But why does mass influence spacetime curvature.
 [ 2018.01.06 21:13:16 ] Lasairiona Raske > And that just happened.
[ 2018.01.06 21:13:16 ] The Astromancer > Well well, CONCORD finally made it with their ancient trinkets. Are you really going through with your useless efforts, doc?
[ 2018.01.06 21:13:18 ] Holnar Reniret > Valerie Valate most definitely no.
[ 2018.01.06 21:13:23 ] Uriel Paradisi Anteovnuecci > Really only mentioning them as a callback, but yeah - that group who wanted the 25-hour-based clock way back around the ime of the conference
[ 2018.01.06 21:13:30 ] Valerie Valate > you may address me as Professor Valate.
[ 2018.01.06 21:13:37 ] Holnar Reniret > Mr... The Astromancer  ... why are you target-locking us? You are disrupting the measurements.

The three attackers attacked! Talos died first, then the Algos(wtf is the plural of Algos?). All three were podded, one corpse scooped, one was popped, not sure on the other. Only two pod killmails have shown up on zkill as of yet. They had assorted strange loot.

https://zkillboard.com/kill/67110452/
https://zkillboard.com/kill/67110461/
https://zkillboard.com/kill/67110466/

Their heads were empty and they made no attempts to warp out. No killmarks were granted for their kills, which means A: They're alphas, B: Their ships were considered unpiloted, or C: Dev actors don't give killmarks.

[ 2018.01.06 21:13:40 ] Valerie Valate > and thank you for your response. Doctor.
[ 2018.01.06 21:13:43 ] The Astromancer > I guess we'll just have to show how broken this system you so desperately cling to is.
[ 2018.01.06 21:13:52 ] Holnar Reniret > WHAT THE... WE ARE BEING ATTACKED!!!
[ 2018.01.06 21:13:54 ] Lorienne Nesif > The Astromancer Cease your target lock.
[ 2018.01.06 21:14:09 ] Lorienne Nesif > What are you doing? Hold your fire! This is a scientific mission! Capsuleers, please help us!
[ 2018.01.06 21:14:10 ] Holnar Reniret > NO, PLEASE, STOP!! CAPSULEER, HELP US!!
[ 2018.01.06 21:14:13 ] Therik Mot > I wish I could tell you that you've got all the time in the world to regret the choices CONCORD made, but you don't.
 [ 2018.01.06 21:14:14 ] Holnar Reniret > OH GEEZ
 [ 2018.01.06 21:14:20 ] Holnar Reniret > I DON'T WANT TO DIE!

 [ 2018.01.06 21:14:58 ] Mark726 > What location?
 [ 2018.01.06 21:15:07 ] Veskin Sentinel > Luminaire VI (Gallente Prime)
[ 2018.01.06 21:15:12 ] Lorienne Nesif > Oh dear. Doctor, are you alright?
[ 2018.01.06 21:15:12 ] Kueyen > Blinded them with the light of Science,,,
[ 2018.01.06 21:15:27 ] Holnar Reniret > I... I...
 [ 2018.01.06 21:15:33 ] Holnar Reniret > I... don't know
 [ 2018.01.06 21:15:37 ] Holnar Reniret > are they gone?

 [ 2018.01.06 21:15:37 ] Uriel Paradisi Anteovnuecci > well alrighty then
[ 2018.01.06 21:15:40 ] Lorienne Nesif > Thank you, capsuleers, for your aid.

The actors warped, then the Artemis did too. From Gallente Prime the Caldari Monument is very nearby to the station the actors warped to,

 [ 2018.01.06 21:26:44 ] Lorienne Nesif > Good evening, everyone.

The Artemis and Apollo sat at the Caldari Monument scanning people seemingly at random until the ARC hive fleet showed up and murderized them. Two sets of five Lancers spawned on grid with them and warped away, one more set spawned and then sat there the entire time. There was 15-25 total Lancers in system but I'm not sure on the total count. Someone grabbed a rookie ship and shot the Artemis and it blew him up but was otherwise not bothered by it. They didn't react to scanning people with corpses, corrupted trinary relics, entosis links fit, or I think drifter elements. The things people tried(that they mentioned in local) are in the spoilered stuff below.

This is when Lancers showed up. The initial warpin was well over 1000km and they warped away. They were only on overviews very briefly. They arrived back at 0 shortly after. I assume CCP messed up the spawning?

Keep in mind that they may not have been part of the event at all. Lancers are in many systems, and warp around scanning things on their own.

There's no Jove Observatory in Luminaire, so probably intended to be a response to the CTR in the wreck of the Astromancer's ship. :x

They also didn't scan the customs office, which I assume they'd do if that's what they were warping for. The Lancers were definitely involved in the event, multiple groups of them spawned at the Caldari Monument while Artemis was sitting there. Wasn't the warping in kind of spawn, they just blinked into existence and warped away to go scan the wrecks on Gallente Prime and scan the station that the two actors docked up at.

Thanks Ara!

I just got home from work, but is there more info on the corps of the attackers?

Edit: So, should we read anything into the 2 from Algintal Core other than they are hired guns? (It is a Gallente corporation and they were in Fed space).

I notice The Astromancer is Vherokior Tribe - but for 47 years. Possibly it's some kind of shaman-y thing? Otehrwise why not put him in a corp?

"massive nebula"? Is there such a thing? My understanding is that they are quite rarified. It sounded like a cool event to have witnessed all the same.

At the time that Dust was alive and kicking, I didn't have any cause to visit Jolia, but as of this afternoon the Pend station at Jolia 1-1 does not have an ALGCO presense such as listed in their in-game info pane. I don't believe there's an 'actor' for their CEO Victor Alden, either. They are said to have severed ties to the Fed military but do have that background in rogue drone research. As a former merc outfit, whose pilots today were of Khanid and Brutor heritage, hired gun seems fairly plausible.

The original Astrologer, Cerb Rausolle, was said to be a young grassroots organizer with the 25ers in AD 23237, and with the extended lifespans and technology available in New Eden, it's possible he's alive but very old. However, the organization seems to have lapsed and resurfaced several times in support of various social causes, with no mention of his influence or leadership. The Astromancer did fly a ship called the "Human Horology", which does suggest a connection to the 25er movement, and there have been prominent Federation citizens of Vherokior descent, such as Kelen Ontbad, now a senator from Algintal of all places (^~^;)ゞ. By my reckoning, the Astromancer could have been born as late as YC50, while Ontbad was born in YC79, making the former considerably older. It's possible that they both come from expatriate families who settled in the region at or around the time of the original 25er activity, but if there is a connection to the old movement, today's action would mark a stark departure from their history of protest toward a more belligerent posture.
