While in general Finns have good command of the English language, we tend not to talk it amongst ourselves. (Well, Nokia and a few other companies where corporate policy states that meetings must be conducted in English even if no non-Finns are present are an exception.)

Technically, if you've passed through the Finnish school system within the last few decades, you're supposed to speak Finnish, Swedish and English. So technically, it doesn't matter, and when there's lots of foreign people involved, it may be easier to use broken English instead of do things partially in Finnish and partially in broken English and have the translator try to figure out what has been discussed.

But this is going well out of topic now. He's mellowed out a fair bit from the days when he was occasionnally compared to Mr. Niilo Paasivirta.
