Club Interest Check - Daisy-Chain Invites
« on: 01 Jan 2015, 19:28 »

Yeah, another club. Herp derp. Thinking maybe there would be a more interesting and possibly conflict inciting way to put up a club, and make it something people can actually fight and sneer over.

The thought is that it's invitation only. There is only ONE active invite out at any time. To get in, they must be invited (and contact the club owner saying they have been invited), where they will be added to the allowed list. That person who was invited has ONE invitation to give out, and only ONE. After they invite someone, and someone joins, it's wasted.

If the person invites more than one person, only the first person to get in gets in. Everyone else misses out. Bribes are welcome. Bribe the person with the active invite, or bribe the owner to get special treatment if there are more than one.

If someone gets kicked out, the person who invited them gets kicked out too... so choose wisely. You can auction off your invite, but if someone who hates you buys it out, they can get you kicked out by ruining the invite.

New invite chains may be started based on events, or other competitions.

As for the rules of the joint? I was thinking more of an anything-goes, so that it's not such a safe and boring bet. Maybe you'll get your ass grabbed. Maybe you'll get punched in the face. Getting in is the hard part, so once you're in, why not make it somewhere worth the effort? Make it a challenge.

Just a thought.

I don't like something that encourages more exclusivity

This is a cool idea, but there aren't enough roleplayers to populate the non-exclusive clubs that already exist.

This, really. :\

Morwen's Law:
1) The number of capsuleer women who are bisexual is greater than the number who are lesbian.
2) Most of the former group appear lesbian due to a lack of suitable male partners to go around.
3) The lack of suitable male partners can be summed up in most cases thusly: interested, worth the air they breathe, available; pick two.

P. sure exclusivity is what got the RP community in the current fractured and small state it's in. The OP's idea is neat, but wouldn't do too well because, as Gwen pointed out, the community is too small.

And there's enough closed door RP in little groups. Gotta make something that everyone can get involved in positively, not something exclusive that breeds more negative feelings.

I would argue that you can't force everyone to play with everyone. The source of that problem Anslo might lie in something else (the better question would be 'why do you think people continue to stay in their little exclusive corners with eventually very little to do ?'), but I'm not sure that's the right thread to continue on that, especially as it has been beaten to death already anyway.

Exclusivity hasn't lead to a fractured community. The community being fractured is what's led to exclusivity and it's been that way forever. This is generally speaking a good thing because the community consists of mutually exclusive types of people and somehow getting all of them together would be detrimental to everyone involved. Oil and water are useful on their own and does not mix.

There are chunks of RPers in Eve I wouldn't be caught dead with and there are chunks of RPers that wouldn't get caught dead with me, and this goes for pretty much everyone in Eve. Some people you simply don't want to deal with IC or OOC and that's a simple fact of life. Better for everyone involved that they build their sandcastles in opposite corners of the sandbox.

Not much of a community then IMO. It's been this way forever. Why not try changing it to see what happens?

You know what the funny bit about this is?

The degrees of separation between a capsuleer and thier RP enemy (or even OOC) can be REALLY FRACKING SMALL.

Which.. though could lead to some hilarity?

Could also lead to some bullshit ragey nonsense too.  The first time someone get sinto the club and sees oh HELL NO I WILL NOT RP HERE IF THIS FUCKING ASSHOLE IN CHANNEL.. the idea fizzles out. :/

And knowing the insane levels of OOC derpery have have gone on in 2014 alone.. heh heh heh ...

Feel free. It's just that it's been tried, since the very inception of the notion of RP in an MMO. It doesn't work. You will have wildly diverging ideas of what constitutes etiquette, RP, IC/OOC barriers and a hundred other things in any RP community and when mashed together they just don't fit. That's why it will by default be better for everyone involved if there's a degree of separation between the mutually exclusive philosophies and ways, so everyone gets to play without constantly having someone ruin their play.

It's the reason you get so many OOC conflicts in this game, because these differences will eventually clash and there'll be wreckage everywhere. This is inevitable in a single sandbox, but a certain degree of separation allows everyone to keep building and doing their things regardless. Forcing everything into one single box will by necessity eradicate views, rp styles and philosophies until there's one uniform way of doing things.
