Well yeah that's most likely going to happen...kind of dumb. I guess we'll see what happens. However, it would be nice for the GM's to clarify more than 'it's always been this way, now shut up and go away.'

Oh well vOv

Well, CCP Guard popped in later last night to restate the "no, we really only ever meant this to explain stuff we were doing before, k?" line...

Of course, this didn't settle people much at all.

Still, the CSM are apparently on this case, so I'm watching a bunch of the CSMblogs for info.

Rumour has it that this has to do with a group of PIZZA pilots who were trying to pass themselves off as Chribba alts, including changing the article on EVElopedia to indicate this.  I do believe they stole a couple of Supers this way.

They have since been banned, and CCP made a hasty change to the TOS.

Do you see it now?  Something is different.  Something is never was in the first part!

Yeah when you're posing as an actual person versus some character or something that's a little much.

IMHO, it simply means that a player can't say something like...

"As an official representative of [corporation] we [statement]"

whereas, you could get away with saying...

"in our capacity as a capsuleer subsidiary of [corporation] we [statement]"

in particular reference to the OP, you guys can still say that you're a capsuleer subsidiary, or capsuleer contractors for, ishukone, but obviously cannot say that you are ishukone or are able to speak for them.
It's a fine line, but one that i've seen crossed more than once recently...

Not to mention, no one is more critical than an RPer when it comes to such claims as "I'm so-and-so of such-and-such".  I've seen various legitimate characters (Kuvakei, Something St. Tetrimon, etc.) speak to capsuleers and all indications given (80 years in whatever corp, custom avatar) make it a difficult thing to lie about.  Without those credentials, most tend to assume the speaker is deranged anyhow.  What action does CCP need to take?

I think CCP is just irked that names like Sansha Kuvakei and Korako Kosakami are claimed by players. It's why we've had Master Kuvakei instead of Sansha Kuvakei as the actor character.

AFAIK, that was already disallowed. At least, I thought it was.

Quote from: GM Grimmi
Greetings pilots,

We would like to address your concerns regarding the update to article 8 of our TOS that was published yesterday. Some basic information on how we deal with issues that come up regarding impersonation is therefore appropriate.

All cases are investigated individually on a case by case basis. If there are complications or difficulties in reaching a solution cases are moved to senior game masters, which happens a lot with the impersonation issues that are reported to us. There are no magic catch-all rules and policies to cover every eventuality so they must interpret the rules we have in place and apply them to the issue at hand in order to keep the peace. For all practical purposes there has been no change in how impersonation issues will be handled compared to the last few years. The TOS update reflects the way reported cases of impersonation have been handled by Customer Support for a long time. The rules applied have been buried in our naming policy and EULA but have now been placed in plain view in order to better help players to make decisions on how they interact with one another.

As cases are investigated GMs look at the information that is available, one of the important considerations being the intent behind a player’s actions. Benevolent roleplaying of NPC entities may not be considered to warrant action in regards to impersonation while malicious activity employing such trickery will not be tolerated.

One concern is that we have pretty much banned all scams in EVE. Clearly, this is not the case.

Thank you and fly safe.

Question answered.

Now if only they could get their GMs to follow their own rules...

I really don't get what the uproar was about. It was pretty plainly about players attempting to impersonate CCP employees, GMs, ISDs, NPC corporations or other players with the intent to defraud. I don't see how that would have any effect on us as RPers.

So it's still legal to scam within the game mechanics or, say I'm somehow aligned with the Republic Fleet as long as I don't try pass myself off as being an actual member of that NPC corp in order to steal isk/spaceships/etc. I'm still free to claim that I'm the love child of Jamyl Sarum and Yonis Ardishapur in my RP and bio (and to be laughed and pointed at for being an idiot).
