Exactly my point. Plus, what little RPers there happen to be have to toe the partyline or get ostracized.

There no longer is rivalry between supporters of different houses in the Amarr RP scene, nor is there similar existing difference in Minmatar RP. Gallente RP... There is no gallente RP to even speak off anymore, and Caldari? Everyone is FüR DAS STATEH or get shat on. No Kaalakiota going after Nugoeihuvi for being real shady folks that tags that have Guristas emblems on them (I have them, they're nifty).

To be fair, Caldari RP is very much the State against all others, at least to outsiders. :) It's only once that conflict is resolved that the Caldari pull out their knives and go to town against each other. :)

Yeah I know it is, even to slightly xenophobic degree, but that is all it is now. There is no nuance, there will be none as long as FW is functional. There's just jackboots going FüR DEN STAAT* and no intra-faction intrigue to keep the faction interesting. While you could argue I-RED is a choice among others, but people have more shat on them rather than engaged in deep rooted corporate intrigue. Still a tip of my hat to them for sticking to their own thing.

Anyhow, if people really are happy with the state of things EVE RP, who am I to argue with you. Might just be time for me to to find another game. EVE is getting way too one-dimensional with it's shit.

People have been complaining about others toeing the party line and ostracizing those who don't for as long as I have been playing EVE. I actually consider those complaints a sign that something is going *right* in Empire RP. It is certainly not the fault of FW, cause we were seeing the same complaints well before FW.

I do think that there is a distinct lack of the secondary party supporters at this point. But that is a cyclical thing. I notice that any given community within EVE-RP tends to expand and contract fairly regularly over time and that right after it comes out of a contraction period it tends to have a fairly strong orthodoxy. Usually as they continue to grow they start producing minorities made up of those who had been ostracized and those who sympathize with the ostracized. This is basically how it should be IMO.

I do think things this time around were exacerbated by the idiocy that was TonyG's version of the EVE factions, which encouraged extremely one dimensional approaches, but other than that I really don't think that you can blame CCP or any mechanic.

I will also say that in an MMO you need your party line types to outnumber your rebels and oddballs for the world's roleplay plots to be believable.

Well alot of the corporate intrigue in the State is supposed to occur behind closed doors, with smoke and brandy and players aren't integrated into that because as capsuleers the game mechanics tend to force characters into roles more or less as the enforcers or hired clean up when the scheming gets out of hand, risks going public etc. but aren't actually participants in the schemes and conspiracies themselves.

Our characters aren't in contact with the shady or important types within any of the factions to make intrigue functional. Caldari can't get orders from corporate Executives, Gallente can't get orders from Senators, Minmatar can't get orders from clan or tribal chiefs and Amarr can't get orders from House representatives.

However there's other ways to do it I think at least on my end. I certainly see no issues with say something along the lines of:

1. Kaalakiota affiliate capsuleer alliance is accused of involvement in targeted strikes against Ishukone industrial interests in xyz constellation by a third party local media outlet.
2. Kaalakiota affiliate denounces it all as nothing more than lies and slander in addition to stating unverified reports doesn't constitute evidence of involvement (But does say it's tragic Ishukone personnel died and will do everything in their power to bring the perpetrators to justice etc.)

Go on from there and see what happens or whatever else. However, constructing something like that does take some time and effort so that the nuance and illusion of not being tell who is lying and who is telling the truth is there.

Sounds like a good opportunity for Veikipoo and Kittykat to have special RP behind closed doors.

People could also create such intra factional conflicts and events themselves. But they usually loathe the very idea of it of they would appear "weakened" and not "united" because of :war:.

Well I'm not sure why you emphasized those points. It's well known I think that Veik is often too busy knitting sweaters with,"FÜR DEN STAAT!" on them or putting the tenth coat of shoe polish on her jackboots to be involved in some kind of dubious and shady corporate espionage involving the organization she leads.

I have no idea why people just don't accept she's just a very sweet, open, honest and ethical Deteis Executive already who just wants to take long walks down a dull grey corridor while doing her corporate tax returns.

Unless that's a proposition for something else.

In which case all I can say is that the shark tank is still being cleaned and will not be ready for a few days yet.

Well, I don't know if others have noticed, but it's not exactly like our registered Ishukone representatives here are greeted with open arms by their KK loyalist counterparts. It's just that when your standard Gallente steps into the room, we close ranks.

But watch how, say, Vikarion and Kat interact, and you'll see some tension and quiet "you aren't as Caldari as I am" back and forth. Ditto for Vik and Stitcher, and Pieter and Stitcher.

Which megacorporation does Vikarion pledge his loyalty to? I can't recall if you've ever mentioned it. Or is he more freelance under STPRO?

He is KK.

And LDIS had Vik and Stitcher in it for awhile.  There was the buy-out of Stitcher's corp by LDIS with Vik buying shares from John and then selling them to LDIS.

The competition is there, just it isn't very fun for a 5-10 man corp to try and take on a 100+man alliance in space.

I've always played being Kaalakiota as promoting this latent sense of cultured ruthlessness and superiority complex of, "I am Kaalakiota, it does not matter what you do I will always be better than you and yours." That applies to everyone else that isn't Kaalakiota. It doesn't feel as blatant when interacting with Wiyrkomi or Lai Dai characters (although that doesn't mean it isn't there) than with Ishukone though.

Primarily because Ishukone seems to profess different values than Kaalakiota which in general seem to focus on State military strength, telling foreigners to politely go screw themselves, etc.

Anyway, I don't see anything wrong with developing a particular Caldari worldview along Megacorp. lines. The differences in perspective internally in the State should be what drives the dialogue and discussion between Caldari characters to me, not just, "For the State! Destroy the Fed!"

Hey I think I remember when this happened!
  • Stitch had a corp, Forgetech I believe.
  • Apparently John had shares which Vik bought and then funneled through to LDIS - probably some Patriot fun time.
  • Also apparently this shows there is some competition and inter-play between the state corporations, it just doesn't work too well when one corp outguns, out finances, and out mans the other by a massive amount

Did I get it?
