Too many faecal references on this forum
« on: 11 Feb 2015, 13:10 »

It is most unbecoming.

Things like:
Quote
people getting a razorblade shoved up their ass by RL
Quote
something I pull out of my ass

how about not

Butt asses ass assinine assertions ar'se assiduous ass... okay, I was stretching it before I finished the first word but yeah. Leave the butts alone. Anywhere that is not a kindergarten, the onus should be on the user to set up browser filters to remove the "naughty" stuff if they can't handle it, rather than trying to limit everyone else from talking like normal people.

Of all the shit to bitch about... really?

You can do better than that.

And yes. That is my moderator-hat stance on the matter - and I get the feeling it'll be shared.

Edit: I think you meant anus, not onus, Miz.

Morwen's Law:
1) The number of capsuleer women who are bisexual is greater than the number who are lesbian.
2) Most of the former group appear lesbian due to a lack of suitable male partners to go around.
3) The lack of suitable male partners can be summed up in most cases thusly: interested, worth the air they breathe, available; pick two.

The English language has hundreds of metaphors that can be used instead.

How about using some of them ?

... well god damnit, I've had an itch ever since I made that post and now I know why.

Edit: The solution is simple, Louella. You're clearly the only one having any kind of significant problem with the words in question, so you can solve it for everyone involved by simply using a filter for your browser. Ass to Poothole or something, entirely up to you. You really can't expect everyone else to conform to your frankly ridiculous demands in this.

Normal people talk like that ?  :o

Otherwise no, she is clearly not the only one. Not that I am particularly bothered by it (at least it's not offensive/insulting wordings per se), but it's just gross and doesn't speak very high of the person using it. I can understand it is annoying. It annoys me when I read it too much.

Emphasis on the too much. I do not especially feel that the audience of this forum is really prone to trash talk, and reading it once or twice in a light tone doesn't bother me. There were cases where it was clearly over the top to my mind, though.

I guess it's a matter of upbringing or cultural thing or whatnot, dunno. vOv

You sure sound like very emotionally invested in that particular topic considering the extreme care to which you seem to want to assert your opinion with a hammer. Is there something at stake or what ?

To answer more plainly, it becomes significant to me when it starts to get over the top, as i said it has already happened a few times already. So for now, not significant, but on the long run... I can understand the OP. I don't care personally if it's done before eating or not (i'm not sensitive to that thing at all), I can understand it ruffles someone's feathers the wrong way, but the issue to me is something else entirely :

I'm pretty sure you talk like that to your drinking buddies, and that's ok. We are not your drinking buddies, though.

Butts are srs bsnis. The touching thereof in particular.

What I am emotionally invested in is the frankly offensive notion of imposing limitations on other people's perfectly normal speech because a minority find something objectionable, when said minority are the ones who can with minimal effort avoid being subjected to whatever they're offended by through a veritable cornucopia of means, including but not limited to; word replacement addons, closing the tab, various internet filters etc etc.

There is speech that is offensive enough to warrant being ousted from various communities, depending on the openness of the media/forum in question but this is honestly so flat out silly that I am quite honestly offended by it. It implies that there is some sort of right not to be offended, no matter what you might personally find offensive, which is a horrifying idea in and of itself.

To quote a rather eloquent australian, I find boybands offensive. If I was to demand the censure of that subject from a public forum I'd be laughed out if not outright banned.

In short, finding something offensive becomes -your- personal problem to deal with (multiple solutions already supplied) unless it's sufficiently outrageous that the community at large stands together against it, like slurs based on gender or sexuality for instance.

furthermore, using the phrase "to shit on things" instead of "to spoil things", is just lowest common denominator.

not offensive, just not classy, and not encouraging of discussing things. Lowers the tone.

"did you pull that shit argument out of your ass?" vs "that's an unusual interpretation of the PF, how did you arrive at it?"

creates needless hostility.

It's right there in the FaQ about polite posting culture.
