Cartoons these days seem to be following the formula of 'weird shit'.

Bitch, please. Ren and Stimpy. Case, point, hook, line and sinker.

As we say in Finland; Jonnet ei muista.

Further weirdness: Rocko's Modern Life

This has a very Adventure Time feel to it though!

Yup yup yup. We were of a generation I feel exposed to much abso-bat-shit wierd animation growing up.  Cable not being as popular as it is now I feel like a lot of stations just kind of got away with whatever they wanted.  Some of those Ren and Stimpy episodes were way too intense for a kids channel watched by young ones :)

SPACE MADNESS.  And "Marooned".   Classic, classic.

That being said I'm quite

Well, it is the same guy behind the two series, so yes.

I have been following the Cartoon Hangover studio for some time. It is an interesting and very innovative market approach and they do produce some quality cartoon series.

Seems like cartoons are growing up with us lately. They tend to take a turn towards nonsense rather than more direct humor. Maybe that's a product of the generation now writing them, rather than a directed effort to market towards fellow adults instead of kids. Not sure, but I have a hard time getting the feeling of "Saturday Morning Cartoons" with today's stock.

internet-meme friendly cartoons get talked about more, thus raising the profile of that cartoon, which translates into higher audience figures which means more money. Look at that whole "brony" phenomenon.

My Little Pony: FiM isn't really any more 'internet meme' friendly than any other show.
