What is your quest?
« on: 18 Nov 2010, 14:19 »

Unless your character just exists from day to day without any driving force, he likely has a quest: something specific he wants to achieve. This isn't something generic like "bring justice to New Eden," nor something trivial like "move his Rifter from Rens to Hek". Luke wanted to destroy the Death Star, Li Mu Bai wanted to recover the Green Destiny, and Jerry Thompson wanted to figure out what "Rosebud" meant.

What about your character? What is your quest?

In many ways, Seriphyn is just continuing to 'live his life' as a serviceman of the Federation. Even with the freedom bestowed as a capsuleer, he is the same as any other career soldier.

Secretly, however, that he won't really admit to anyone (he might do, on occasion), is that his daughter, Anette, wants to be President one day. With the catastrophes of losing his homeworld, Caldari Prime, to the State, and of course losing his childhood sweetheart and baby son to Nation, she is all that he has left, and wishes to serve her as much as he can, by making sure there is still a Federation for her to preside over.

Anette has a quest: she wants to become President of the Gallente Federation.

Seriphyn might have a nebulous goal to preserve the Federation, but he likely has a couple quests: perhaps "ending the Sansha incursions into the Federation" or "winning the Fed's current war with the State".

Where Senn lives, existing day to day is its own quest. >>

That being said, I don't think even my multi-month life in EVE is time enough to determine a "quest." Luke had to grow up on Tatooine and be led to Ben before his started. Jerry Thompson had to develop a love of journalism. etc.

However, if anything can be called a "quest," I suppose lil Senn is still discovering the trials, tribulations, rewards and sacrifices associated with capsuleer life. Accustoming one's self to prolonged pod exposure takes decent effort.

To reforge the Empire into an entity that can actually survive what is to come.

John's overall goal is to ensure stability in the State, and aid in regaining taken power from Ishukone over the past few years.

In the end he is tired, and is waiting for retirement or (If it was possible) to be killed in the line of duty.

To finally connect Solitude to the rest of the Federation by high-sec gate routes.

Prize to Bruno for totally getting it. (Note that the quest need not be achievable OOCly, because the character doesn't know that.)

To ensure, "whatever it takes", that Matar can live on without another invasion by the Amarr Empire.

(I'd give another one that's a bit more quest-like, but that's sort of classified for now.)

To live happily ever after, possibly with a nice garden to putter around in.  No more, no less ... and why doesn't anybody believe me when I say that?

Good news everyone!

I've discovered my true quest in life!

That quest is... what was I saying again?

(My character's real quest is to kill all humans.  Yes, he's one of those.  But it's a secret.  Shhh.)

And all your characters seem to make it ... really really hard to do just that.
