Nouvelle Veiy - The King and His Lady

Today marketed as "one of the classic brews" or "l'raux d'aclese" (king of style), Nouvelle Veiy was and is a popular alcoholic beverage on the Gallente homeworld that can also be found in fine establishments throughout the Federation.  The original Nouvelle Veiy is a lager made from malted barley that is touched with a secret mixture of spices during the cool fermentation process.  It is described as having a clean, mellow flavor with a chasing hint of citrus.  To kiss someone that's been drinking Nouvelle Veiy was once famously described at a Centurion Day festival by Gallente Senator (and former company president) Lyvae Gean-Quinon as "like wrapping up in a warm blanket".  Having had several already herself, she then found the nearest party-goer and tested the claim on live holovideo.

Although now part of the Quafe family of brands, the original Nouvelle Veiy company began about three hundred years ago as a regional brewer in the Caille metropolitan area.  Started by a family of immigrants from Mannar Prime, Papalo Randa and his three daughters operated the brewery out of their home during its first few years.  Competition in the recreational beverage market on Gallente Prime was particularly fierce in that era, but the company's founders proved themselves as adept at business as they were at brewing.  Quality was ever the emphasis, demanded of both the ingredients in the product and the people making it.  The company's eventual success and the drink's current place within the modern Gallentean zeitgeist is illustrated by a commonly used slang term for beer, heard all over Essence in the slogan-(and song lyric)-turned-idiom: "Pour me a Nouvy".

The brand is in fact so much a part of Gallente drinking culture that Soena Ojo, a Mannar comedienne of the early CONCORD era who was famous for her rough language and risque costumes, used a glass of Nouvelle Veiy in one of her best known stand-up routines.  Just after taking the stage and before saying even a single word, she would place a glass on the wooden stool that was her only other prop and fill it with Nouvelle Veiy.  Her parting punch line was delivered after (having ignored it for the entire show) she finally took a long draught from the glass and said, "Tastes like f****n' freedom!"

Nouvelle Veiy tends to be advertised as a light, refreshing drink enjoyed socially by young people who want a quality beverage as well as a buzz.  Ever present in the brand's marketing since the YC80s is the sight of a buxom young woman called "the Lady" or "Madame Nouvelle".  This is not one particular person, however, but more of a persona.  There are quite a few women in the Federation whose early employment history includes a stint playing the Lady at events and conventions where Quafe is looking to boost sales or debut a new product.  While only the most alluring and exotic beauties are hired, the position is purely for marketing purposes and is not truly comparable to working in the Federation's various sensual industries.  Yet the cult-like allure of the image is such that a community of former and present "Ladies" hold an annual convention of their own, nominally to support and celebrate those like them employed across the Federation.  Called "Ladies' Night", it is very much a party in its own right and remains a popular attraction for those lucky, wealthy, or well-connected twentysomethings who can acquire a spot on the guest list.

In addition to the original drink, the Quafe company distributes other beverages under the Nouvelle Veiy brand, to include Nouvelle Revelier, Nouvelle Avante, Amber Veiy, Nouvy Light, and NX (a synthetic, non-inebriating alcohol; pronounced "nix").  These varieties are targeted toward connoisseurs, sports and entertainment venues, and the so-called temperate demographic (Amarrians and other religiously-minded consumers living in the Federation).

So, what'll ya have?

Pour me a Nouvy!

Drink up!  Wanted to tip my hat to the ever-underrepresented Mannar, thus NV's founders were a Mannar family and the recipe particularly Mannarian (what's the correct adj?).
