The Minmatar were found in 3 planets, when the Empire invaded. (apparently though, according to Theodicy, there were other planets by the time of vak-atioth)


At the end of the Rebellion, 66% of the Minmatar population were freed, and were then living in what is now Republic space (a whole lot more planets). 33% remained in the Empire

In the modern age, 33% of the Minmatar are still in the Empire, but only 25% of the Minmatar still live in the Republic, with 20% in the Federation, and the rest, distributed across the rest of the cluster.

There are things that mention "population boom", in missions and such, but, how does that explain the massive shift in numbers ?

Very likely they did. Initially as refugees during the revolt.

I think a CTCS analysis on the matter might show something along the lines of :

P1 : "Minmatars in New Eden spreads incredibly fast"
P2 : "Mushrooms sprout simimar amounts of individuals"
=> "Thus Minmatars are some sort of fungus."

Did Minmatar people emigrate en masse from the Republic ?

In "History of the Gallente Federation", it states that the vast majority of the Minmatar growth in the Federation came right after the successful rebellion, as many of them saw the Federation as a better place to live. This dwindles off, only to hit a second spike around the time Eve is set in.

Probably one of the immediate benefits of life in the Federation would be an improved life expectancy. Compared to the average Minmatar tribe, I imagine the Federation is miles ahead in medical care, sanitation, and basic living comforts. Without having to worry about children dying from meager illnesses or exposure, immigrant Matari would probably be more inclined to be hittin' that.

Ergo, population boom, pretty ordinary if you ask me.
