Dust 514 and the current state of FW
« on: 26 Aug 2012, 05:37 »

Dust 514 is coming closer to the launch date, and supposedly it links heavily with Faction Warfare. How would the current FW situation (with the Minmatar having won and most Amarr abandoning the warzone) impact Dust?

My prediction for the long-term state of FW is that both warzones will be mostly conquered by one side (Caldari for Caldari/Gallente and Minmatar for Minmatar/Amarr) giving near perpetual access to the highest tier, while LP's are farmed by attacking each other's warzones, flipping non-critical systems back and forth and by mission running.

If that would happen by the time of the Dust 514 launch, would that not have a major impact in Dust gameplay options?

"By working in unison, players will be able to fight critical battles that can swing the sovereignty of the system and thus influence the large scale strategic balance."

Doesn't that run counter to the current popular strategies, which want to delay battles for 'swinging sov' until a cashout is desired? I think the current metagame is ill-suited for a proper Dust 514 link.

FW is currently in such a borked state that I don't think anything remotely resembling "war" can be found anywhere in it. Skirmishes involving a handful remaining pvpers fighting 'for lols', perhaps. But not war.

This does not fit CCP's plans for Dust at all, no.

We can only hope they will recognize what we have been telling them and perhaps look at some of the suggestions we have been offering since before the bloody FW patch came out.

I like the implications of Gallentians being punched in the face by walking up to a Minmatar as they so freely use another person's culture as a fad.

It's a clusterfuck of such magnitude that I have real trouble mentally visualizing the vast scope of it.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Linking a console game with a 3-month shelf life (at best), to a persistant PC game is a failure of strategic planning of the highest order.  Console games DO NOT HAVE LEGS.  Unless you are Halo or Call of Duty (and Dust is neither of those), and even then the console player base is fickle and extremely impatient to buy the next thign.

This 'game' needs to just be another "aspect" of EVE ONLINE.

The Eve Online client should give you access to four or five different 'games' and genres, all subscription or FTP based.

Your EVE client should be a portal into several different sorts of games in the same world-space.

I want 'assassin's creed' on stations to assassinate NPC officials and other capsuleers in low sec.

I want Supreme Commander on null-sec planets to fight for resource rights.

I want Actual 'in-fighter' joystick dogfights as Carrier fighter and supercarrier bomber pilots

I want my effing Avatar to be able to sit down and have a drink with someone

And most of all I want freaking Machinima client for chrissake. WHY DO WE NOT HAVE THAT.

New dev blog FW changes give me hope. DUST could actually work well with it I think.

But there's not shit I can do until they actually happen.

(Not that I've had much time to play anyways this last month)  :bash:

Graelyn is a verb now? And Ava is a plural entity?

God help us all.
