New Minnie Shaders
« on: 19 Jun 2012, 19:54 »

So I finally get some proper time off to slack in front of the computer. Then CCP releases a new video that makes me close the browser in disgust and lift some weights instead. Youtube Link.

Sure, I don't have time to play. Hell, I don't even have Eve installed at the moment. It still bugs me when CCP decides that the ships in Eve that already require a quite specific kind of taste weren't quite shitty-looking enough. "There's too much metal on the Minnie ships. I know! Let's make them out of cardboard!". Gnnrgh.

Ah well, CCP doesn't want me back anyway.

Opinions differs I guess. I love the new skins, mostly because the fernite carbide composite armor plating the Matari use actually LOOK like proper armor now. I was always annoyed with how it looked like minnie ships were made - ironically - out of cardboard boxes, (held together with ducktape(tm) obviously) and this has now changed and the ships look more compact, solid, and like actual ships with actual armor.

But then again, opinions. I'm sorry to hear you did not like it, but more sorry to hear your not playing, and likely won't anymore.

If Miz had liked it, something would have been wrong with the universe?

I'm not a big fan of the new minmatar shaders. Core Complexion (Sebiestor) is ridiculously dark, literally being pitch black. Meanwhile, the rest of the Minmatar T1 ships got brighter instead, suddenly looking as Miz said - like cardboard.

CCP has already stated the current V3 colors for Minmatar T1 will not stay the same, but they are too far into the Inferno 1.1 release to update the patch with the new colors they're doing now. They were unable to keep the patchy rust job with the new V3 due to technical difficulties (which is why they saved Minmatar for last), and were forced to use flatter textures. I don't understand it, tbh, but that's what they said.

Anyways, it will be fixed. Just not for 1.1

Hrm. Good to hear. Pity that it's far enough off to not even have a planned release, but at least it's on some kind of list, somewhere.

I like the new look and hope they don't change it to rust too much when they go about altering it in the future (as confirmed by devs on the forum). Their armor looks like proper, mass produced equipment now.

This.

I liked the new look, because I can now produce my own Minnie ships, manufactured in space, to avoid that whole 'my ship's made with tritanium that oxidize in contact with oxygen' thing where, for some reason, I STILL get a rusty metal construction with construction-beams that have not been removed, despite the fact there was all the time in the world to do so.

What I DO hope they change thogh is the emblem fuck-ups they did on Minnie and Amarr ships. Yeah really my Khanid Inovation-made ships have the Khanid Kingdom emblem, that makes sense. And yeah, the Wolf was indeed made by Brutor Tribe, honest

I guess we will see. They can't please everyone but they can manage a realistic-looking skin that don't scream 'rule of cool' over realism... unless they come up with a good explanation for rusting composite alloys IN SPACE.

While your argument has its merits, I've never seen a rusty ship in Eve. Ever. I've seen hulls and armor with red/brown coloring due to the specific process used in manufacturing said hulls. It's mentioned somewhere in the PF, I just can't remember where.

Oh, and there's oxidation in space. Something about specific rays/radiation/solar winds/whatever affecting metal in a way that's kind of close to rusting. Calling it oxidation may not be accurate, but the result is similar anyway. When I get off work I'll have to try and find that article again.

Nawww, these T1 skins are nice.  :D  Agree that they look better (more proper and mass produced like) with a the flat finish.  Hope any future "rustification" doesn't overdo the grungy effect.  I don't have a SiSi client right now.  So does anyone have screens of the T2s?  Core Complexion, Boundless Creation, Thukker, etc...

IMO, what they really need to do is remodel some of these.  *cough* Stabber *cough*

I do believe Core Complexion skins are now represented by the Sebiestor tribe (Sebiestor tribe owns CC?) and Boundless Creation by the Brutor tribe. I don't think this is a design oversight like Ardishapur logos being on the Viziam ships (though according to the CCP Art Panel, Ardishapur colours = Viziam colours).

If I'm not mistaken, the V3 corp skins for Minmatar are the seven tribes, Fleet and Justice Department. I think CaldariPrimePonyClub did an accurate imagining of each on a Hurricane (don't have link).

Perhaps it represents that corporations in the Republic aren't as powerful as they are elsewhere, and that the tribes are predominant. I think each faction has 13 skins.

Gallente = Civilian, Roden, Duvolle, CreoDron, Federal, Navy, Police, Aliastra, InterBus, Inner Zone, Quafe, Serpentis, Syndicate
Caldari = Civilian, State, Navy, Ishukone, Hyasyoda, Wiyrkomi, Lai Dai, Kaalakiota, NOH, CBD, SuVee, Guristas, Mordu's
Amarr = Civilian, Ammatar, Navy, Imperial, Court Chamberlain, Equilibrium of Mankind, Blood Raiders, Kador, Khanid, Kor-Azor, Tash-Murkon, Sarum, Ardishapur.
Minmatar = Civilian, Brutor, Sebiestor, Vherokior, Krusual, Nefantar, Starkmanir, Thukker, Fleet, Tribal?, Justice Department, ???, ???

Wonder what the remaining two Minnie are.

CCP have always been bad at their ship skins. Space camos, chocolate carthum, giant golden airbrushed ishukone, zebra burnt serpentis, etc etc.

I am mixed with these. I really like the new gallente and caldari skins, they overall look better and kept the same style they had before. For the Amarr, I was a little mixed since we lost a lot of the golden hulls but for more realistic and "used" armor plates that overall, look better. Everything also got more contrast, which is a good thing, especially the golden ornaments to compensate.

For minmatar ships here, I am unsure what to think. I like your point about the "more proper and industrialised" look, but at the same time we lost the red and metallic hues that have always colored minmatar ships. Their new shade is nice in the render, but the hue is wrong imo. Too "desert" like (that hurricane is weird).

I'm not completely sold on the new Minmatar textures, but I'm pretty annoyed by the fact that CCP can't pick a theme and stick to it with the corp logos on ships.

They started off with the Caldari and Gallente using a system that made sense - standard T1 used the empire emblems, and faction and T2 variations used the appropriate corporate logo. For T2, this was the R&D corporation clearly stated in the ship's info.

Then they did the Amarr, and instead of sticking to the system that made sense, they made the Amarr T2 ships use a "patron" Family corporation instead - Carthum became Sarum, Viziam became Ardishapur, and Khanid Innovation became the Kingdom as a whole. While these may have made some level of sense based on things like shareholder information (apparently Sarum and Ardi have large amounts of shares in Carthum and Viziam respectively), this information is not publicly available ingame, and may not be on the wiki anymore given the changes to the way they display NPC corporation information.

People complained on the forums about it, and Amarr T2 are fixed and ready for the patch whenever it comes (aside from the Sentinel, last I checked, which still shows an Ardishapur logo instead of Viziam). Except, CCP didn't keep these complaints in mind when doing the Minmatar ships, and now instead of Boundless Creation, Core Complexion and Thukker Mix, we have the same problem we had with the Amarr: they're marked with the logos of Brutor Tribe, Sebiestor Tribe and Thukker (faction).

For those three, the connections are only obvious for the Thukkers (like the Khanid, with KIV), and maybe Boundless Creation, whose reference blurb in their T2 ships references the Brutor.* Nowhere in the readily-available information on Core Complexion (again, that means anything available ingame without using the IGB) is a connection to the Sebiestor Tribe made.

So instead of picking the corp logos of the corps that we know for complete certainty have a strong connection to these vessels, they've gone with other corps, at least one of which makes no sense to the casual observer. It was two corps for the Amarr, as neither Carthum nor Viziam make any reference to Sarum or Ardishapur.

That's not to say I wouldn't like there to be tribal variants or paintjobs available through the LP store or NeX. But I'm a little annoyed by the lack of ability for them to pick a theme and stick to it.

* EDIT: I went and checked the shareholder information on Boundless Creation. The Krusual tribe has a larger portion of the shares than the Brutor. >_>

Morwen's Law:
1) The number of capsuleer women who are bisexual is greater than the number who are lesbian.
2) Most of the former group appear lesbian due to a lack of suitable male partners to go around.
3) The lack of suitable male partners can be summed up in most cases thusly: interested, worth the air they breathe, available; pick two.

Hmm, I think it's because the custom skin gallery they're going for with Amarr/Minmatar are just houses/tribes, with no corporations in that list. I think it's for consistency. The Viziam colours are now Ardishapur, so when you buy a t1 Punisher with the Ardishapur skin and logo, then buy a t2 Zealot, they'll be 'consistent'.

PF-wise, I'd interpret it as the fact that the tribes and houses are more in control of space affairs.
