Gallenteanization

Picked up this line from "Chained to the Sky", set in Dam-Torsad...

Izoni Square was much the same, he reflected as he exited the terminal. Even at this early hour business was booming. Handmade cutlery, bootleg holosymphs, off-world condiments of varying legality, scriptural terp mods, Adakul manuals, the latest in carefully faked Caille leather

This makes me think that, like IRL, we have the concept of Westernization. The Gallenteans are arguably the cluster's leading cultural force, dominating fashion, music, entertainment and food, just like how the West does on modern day earth. Go to Tehran in Iran, or Delhi in India, cultures that are both very alien to the West and you will see individuals wearing t-shirts, button-down shirts, jeans and so forth. Does the same apply to the EVE universe? Consider that the Caldari met the Gallenteans in their Industrial Age, so contemporary Caldari society would have been shaped by the Gallente influence.

Moreover, there is some level of standardization in the EVE universe, in the sense of all of them have a pop culture and entertainment industry. Again, is this Gallente influence? Why would the Minmatar and Amarr have a concept on their own? The Caldari learned it from the Gallente (NOH "being an answer to the cultural powerhouses of the Federation") but there seems to be this established standard of a popular culture in the modern EVE day. Did the Gallente establish this standard?

I'm inclined to believe they did. Just like IRL, many cultures would not have developed the concept of having a profit-making, mass industry based on arts on their own, I reckon. At the very least, other empires creating a mass popular culture if only to rival the Gallente (as the Caldari did). I'm pretty sure CCP is following the trends and examples of IRL without tracing it back to Westernization being the cause of many countries to embrace these industries, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.

EDIT - alternative thought. Mass media was developed by countries with a high level of industrialization, IRL, this happened to be the West and bled over elsewhere. But in EVE, all four factions reached a high level of industrialization so...

Largest producers and consumers in terms of volume, most likely. Leading? not so much.

Modernization but not westernization

But any way, the point of both Gallenteanization and Westernization is to create ne mimilar mass culture so that the masses would have the same mentality what allows the elites of easier control of those masses. Or maby im wrong.

Mass media, in the western culture, started from religion.

Popular culture, in the western culture, has always been about the middle class trying to copy the upper classes.

At the moment the 'westernization' and the 'Gallentezation' share one thing.

Buy this product to be an individual and show your free will by being exactly like everybody else.

I was wondering about that clothing thing earlier as well. Twenty years ago there were no hoodies in Finland, now there is a certain class of people that wear them constantly.

Attack of the clones :D
