Possibly around 2G of gravity, carbon dioxide based atmosphere. Based on theoretical models. The problem there, I understand, is that the planet is possibly tide-locked (not certain), i.e. one side towards the sun. Scientists initially assumed that the atmosphere would freeze on the far side of the planet, but theoretical climate models showed that winds could possibly even the temperature enough that this doesn't happen.

And now to wait if any other teams try to confirm the results.

I thought it was interesting that we have all ready sent "Hi! We are REALLY nice people :D" messages to it, but arn't going to hear anything back for 50-60 years, heck our signal (provided it gets there intact) will only arrive in 2030.

That being said, I am quite excited that we have FOUND another potentially habital planet.
Now, who wants to go create that FTL drive for me? >_>

What we need... is a stick. Around 20 Lightyears long stick, according to that article. You poke the planet with the stick utilizing morse code or binary if you wish. Voila, FTL communication.

Except... the atoms that your stick consist of (no matter the material type*) does not move faster than the speed of light. Neither will the energy required to make the atoms move.

So your poking will still "only" be at light speed at best.

lightspeed doesn't matter, if the whole stick moves at one unit, then the entire stick is moving slower then light, all the atoms move the foot required by the actual 'poke' so technically this would work. Its not the atoms moving faster then light, its information. Its not practical obviously, but from a physics standpoint, it is a sound theory.

this works for things that aren't lightyears long, so force put in an one end appears at the other 'instantly'. across something so long, it's going to behave more like a spring. We push on this end, and you should be able to watch a compression of the material at our end that will then travel to the other. The laws of physics that we're used to dealing with on earth start to have issues when you try to poke someone a few light years away with a stick.

Victoria is correct: the material will compress and bend slightly, so in reality this would actually go WAY slower than the speed of light. It would actually travel at something on the order of the speed of sound.

And information can never move faster than the speed of light anyway.
