This is what I have commissioned...an "Inhonores family portrait"

A sketch of what will be developed, however, one of the biggest brain scratching I'm having right now is how the design of Seriphyn's uniform will look...

The issue is, is that I want it to look sufficiently militaristic without being extravagant, and without being too Caldari. Yes, yes, you don't need to be Caldari to be militaristic, but I do like the uniform aesthetic, as seen in...

Some points...

- Gallente prefer curves over straight edges
- Gallente prefer low or high+wide open collars over tight collars
- Gallente prefer brighter colours over darker colours
- Gallente prefer having extravagancy over minimalism (eg. having loads of small shiny doodads across the uniform)

Now, I like the design of the uniform there, but I don't want to make it what I think is "awesomefapfap" but what is consistent. I'd like people to look at it and think "Wow, what an awesome Gallente uniform, I may use that" as opposed to thinking "Hm, looks Caldari or Galactic Empire to me". "Humanizing" the fictional universe, that is, but one of my biggest concerns is having the uniform made epicly redundant by Incarna  (ofc, can be explained by the FDU updating their uniforms by that point)

Do you have any suggestions? Things like shoulders (whether square or curved), the collar and the seams (I imagine any seams present on the uniform would have a curve to it).

Moreover, colour. I have debated a sort of Thanatos/Nyx/Erebus colour, that is a very dark green near black colour. It will have silver linings on it, such as on the cap. Too black, ends up looking Caldari again. Other colours I thought of were silver and orange, such as a FedNav NPC battleship, or just silver and red (EL-G corp colours, but trying to style EL-G as a 'unit' of the FDU). Perhaps may just an outright Gallente military green (as seen on Navy Issue ships) with black and gold. This may to be too close to an American uniform, perhaps, but may be unmistakably Fed.

I would love any suggestions! The objective in regards to just the uniform (not the entire picture) is to provide something sufficiently militaristic without having to resort to Caldari aesthetics.

At the risk of sounding overly stereotypical here, a fourragere or aiguillette is mandatory. Possibly several of them.

I was actually thinking of those...a red one, since EL-G has a red theme in it...

Brits and plenty of other militaries use it, so not stereotypical at all

The chapters you'd want to look at is Kap 4 Paraduniformer (Chapter 4 parade uniforms) pages 68 to 72.
These uniforms are worn for parade duties such as guarding the royal palace and such. After page 72 it details how to wear field uniforms during such duties so it doesn't apply to your query.

Skip Kap 5 Musikuniformer is for the various music corps tooting and making rackets so you can skip that.

Kap 6. Sällskapsuniformer (Chapter 6 uniforms for social occasions) is what it sounds like. It's when you attend formal occasions such as balls, embassy parties and the officers mess in other words: all those occasions when you're supposed to know what fork to use at what time.

Oh I have to edit to put in that for day to day wear for the desk wallahs you can look at chapter 3.

If you want to know what is for what branch of service or you're just curious what the hell they're called just let me know and I'll translate if Google is mean to you.

A rough but comprehensive idea:
The main body is a darkened sage, not all the way to olive, but sort of between olive and sage. The main outfit would be cut sharply, but shapely. Well fitting, and tailored to the soldier. Suit Jacket style top, outer. Crisp white under-shirt, both held in place by variable magnetics, making it easy to take off and hard to have come off accidentally. Jacket is mid-length style, with conductor style coat tails. Traditional style is to wear the jacket closed. White polished shoes, white socks, and a white tie are mandatory. Officers are to wear their officer's caps, which have a sage lower section, and a white upper section.
Accents are a pale, dull teal. Including jacket cuffs and collars, rank deco on the cap, and rank patches on the shoulders. Soldiers are permitted but not required to show their theatre stripes on the left breast. Right upper arm patch should be the Gallentean flag, left upper arm patch should be the unit patch.

I don't know if they exist but if they did I could see Gallente wearing them more than the others.

I don't know anything about Gallente uniforms, but where did you get that Caldari one? It's awesome. It's pure, unadulterated win.

The civilian wear loans from uniforms and vice versa. Not sure how much things change in Incarna (I assume a lot), but you could try to figure something out based on what we have in the character creator. Parade uniforms might have some old-fashioned relics from past ages and in general would be more flashy. Otherwise, you'd expect to see specialized field equipment (varying between the branch and the task) as well as dress uniforms worn at barracks - the "regular" dress uniform would likely be quite practical, close to some Gallente wear we have now and include communications equipment, possibly sensors to monitor the readiness of the soldier etc. making sure that he'd be available when needed.

Seri, another designer who's worked up futuristic uniform-like clothes is Todd Lynn.  His latest fall/winter collection has a few pieces in it that just scream Gallente to me.

Incidentally, Celeste's staff probably wears variants on  Outfits #8 and #11 from his Chimaera collection (Autumn/Winter 2008-2009), with sensible shoes and sky blue subbed in for that dark robin's egg shade he's calling teal.
