So did we get ripped off....
« on: 06 Dec 2010, 13:12 »

On sundays incursion in Amarr space?

I am hearing alot of mixed emotions and details on what actually transpired that day. People saying that despite killing the carriers in the time frame allocated, the sansha(CCP) still suceeded. As well as the Super Carrier being taken down to 60% shields and then all damage ceased on the vessel, despite everyone still shooting it.

Im curious if anyone has a exact outline of what transpired and if they could share it here.

The system with the supercarrier fight lagged out. Typical fleet lag situation as you can find in large nullsec batles, guns not cycling properly, grid load lag on warpin etc. It was very much like the battle for D-G performance wise.
With <700 people in system.
Given recent server performance it means that either a)CCP didn't reinforce the node for the event systems or b)all three were sharing a single reinforced node.
Either way very careless, esp. given at least two fleet battle petitions were filed.

Also slave heavenbound's carrier disappeared well into structure. Some still think it was killed. I've heard reports that the pod did appear, as well as reports that no wreck was generated for the carrier. I have seen no killmail, so as far as I can tell the event actors got it out in the last fractions of a second before it died.

Overall a very disappointing day for the live event and sure to put some people off.

Has there been any official response from CCP regarding this event?

Hah, well I thought there might be another meaning to this:

"we'll be able to better organise next time", eh?

I'm betting this was a pretty key plot event. This uplink business especially. Kinda like how Jamyl died back in the day. Makes me wonder who they were trying to contact.

We could blame a lot of things for the "strange" events. Case in point, the fact that even at lowest settings, zero effects and antialiasing off, and every external window closed... I STILL only manged 7fps. These oddities could easily be blamed on the lag that simply exists when 600 vessels are engaging in combat in the same system.

One of the carriers was destroyed, which I participated in. When I tried to engage Slave, however, we managed to get the carrier down to 50% structure before it literally just "left" the grid. Lots of people were left scratching their heads. I'm unsure of the fate of the third carrier.

Admittedly, the "uplinks" might have been a critical storyline point, necessitating the need for CCP to use some smoke and mirrors to accomplish them despite our intervention. There would have been plenty of ways to achieve this, however, without robbing players of important kills - if that's indeed what they did. Again, we might have all been lagging to hard to meet the countdown to Slave's jump succeeding. :/

The thing is, if CCP uses smoke and mirrors, it justifies anti-CONCORD roleplay.

I don't think you need justification to RP against the space police, if your character doesn't appreciate them. They're not really, shall we saaay, unbiased, considering how much crime they're willing to ignore until an egger hits -5.0. If you're inclined to think otherwise, there's justification for that too.

I'm just disappointed with myself for engaging in a Sansha event, tbh. -.-

GM prerogatives (good, bad, or ugly) have nothing to do with adopting a particular IC stance. That strikes me as a blending of IC and OOC that I'd personally avoid.

Instead, a character could choose to follow whatever path seems appropriate. At the same time, the player can let the GM (CCP) know via OOC methods why he disapproves.

Was a bit mystifying the bit with the supercarrier tbh, SF had a fleet of 29 using stand off ravens + scimitars and we warped in on the pirate POS and began shooting the Supercarrier that CVA were engaged with and it seemed initially the damage was going quite fast - then rag-bag hisec fleet turned up and we had to give the "no brackets" order - frame rate continued to be good and our ships were responsive (ie no delay in reloading noticable) but the damage on the Wyvern simply seemed to stop dead.

Perhaps it was due to the local pirates drawing fire - but from our perspective we didn't switch targets onto Chain of Chaos until the Wyvern disappeared from the overview.

I've never yet seen a lag environment that allowed full functionality of the fleet i was commanding while minimizing all damage on the target.

That said, James Lyrus in our fleet said it could have 8m effective shield hitpoints - but even so, you expect 300+ players shooting at it to make more of an impact and there were only 20-30 pirates tops.

Nevertheless, we had fun, roll on the next one.

I did like the interaction with the local pirates though - it certainly looked like they had done a deal with the Sansha pilots and attracting the fleet battle to the moon their pos was at was a smart play. To bad for them it was a bit of a crap POS (this time).

Fairly sure the lack of damage on the Wyvern wasn't due to pirates drawing fire - I was able to watch my guns cycle repeatedly yet consume no ammo and applying no damage. Activation/deactivation times also went upwards of seven minutes.

Frankly, whether this was deliberate action on the part of CCP to make the incursions an "unwinnable situation" or merely some rather poor thinking, I'm not impressed. If it was the former... well, frankly CCP, that isn't the best way to make players feel "involved". If it was bad decision making, then... well, a quick glance at the numbers that showed for Deltole should have told them we'd be arriving en masse... and instead we got... this.

The Heavenbound situation... meh. Just meh.

Reminds me of the last few blue-text-in-local events I took part in.  One where PIE was escorting some important who-gives-a-shit priesty dude through highsec during a war with SF.  We pursued, set up a perfect trap whereby they were cut off by a secondary force of ours, and somehow, magically, their entire fleet leap-frogged our camp without ever passing through it.  Magic teleportation.

Another such event was some actor was stuck in some lowsec system and would be making a run for it under the cover of some pigdog entity controlled by CCP/ISD/Aurora/whatever.  SF spent three days staging ships for what promised to be an epic battle and entertaining event.  We arrived in system, RPed in local for about half an hour, and then the event actor magically teleported out of the system without ever undocking a ship.  Yay for CCP RP events.
