If you have a new angle on something, a new view on RP for a faction, something unique and interesting.

Consider yourself being downplayed and ridiculed until you have stuck with your RP for at least a year.

Otherwise you are just a trolling alt noob.

In addition to this, expect to be told that your new view has "already been done",  "better than you", 3+ years before you started, by people who no longer play.

Sorry for negativity, but that is what some people do.

Furthermore, IGS - the Intergalactic Summit - the "roleplaying" forum on the eve website, has a long memory. Anything you type that may be of even trivial difference to what you're currently saying there will be brought up whenever someone you've ticked off feels like it.

If your character ever changes their mind on anything, expect them to be called a traitor, hypocrite, race-betrayer, brainwashed, gullible, cowardly, etc.

If your character never changes their mind on something, expect them to be called a dinosaur, brainwashed, hypocrite, blind, unimaginative, cowardly, etc.

This may occasionally be done by the same persons.

Have fun.

We in the RP community can give helpful advice and give a good start to somebody new so joining an existing corp is certainly a good idea.  However my "no-bullshit" advice to somebody new to eve RP would be to ignore all of us as most of us including myself are bitter old vets who are only out to promote their own agenda's.

Do your own thing, and don't let anybody bully you or tell you that its wrong :)

One thing I cannot stress enough is "Don't try to write your character all at once." The reasons for this are numerous - you may come to dislike what you produce if you write it all at once, you may hamstring yourself in regard to RP you want to get into later, etc etc - but by far the largest thing is repeatedly seeing people struggling to flesh out every little detail of their character and worry whether it will be "right", before they've even once stepped into an RP channel. Seriously - you don't have to tie yourself in knots figuring out how your character would respond to every little situation or what town in Blarg III he/she grew up on.
Just get a general background, start RPing, and write it up as you go - I guarantee you'll have more fun.

I like the implications of Gallentians being punched in the face by walking up to a Minmatar as they so freely use another person's culture as a fad.

Learn to fly other faction's ships than yours.   Don't limit your relationships with non-role players.

Also QFT. Without this, you're liable to end up with an 'Us and Them' situation, which imo, is a do not want.

I would argue learn how all the ship's/specialties work and train to fly what you want to fly.  If an organization wants to only fly Gallente ships, then that is a requirement to be part of that organization.  If a player only wants to train how to fly Amarr ships, then that is their option.  The second will never be part of the first, but that is a choice that is made by both.

You are not a special snowflake.

Your parents were not murdered by slavers/terrorists/pirates.

You are not the offspring of Jamyl/Shakor/Heth/whoever's running the Federation this week.

You are not from another universe.

Don't expect people to be reasonable if ingame limitations contradict RP sense. They'll use anything for their own agenda.

While this is very overplayed, it doesn't create anywhere near the same sort of problems that claiming to be Shakor and Jamyl's sekrit love child does. Certainly, one would assume that millions of people in New Eden do fall into this category.

That all said... You ARE Rodj's offspring, who is a slaver that murders terrorists and/or pirates, and is a universe unto himself because of extreme amounts of awesonium.
