Character acquisition
« on: 15 Jul 2010, 09:48 »

So I'm looking for some advice on handling purchased characters.

In particular, I have a character that has lost significant (though not fatally crippling) skills from getting podded without an updated clone, possibly more than once. Not to mention the fact that I will take the character in a different direction than the previous owner, who engaged in lots of metagaming and enemy-making. (I knew this prior to the purchase; I didn't get scammed.)

One possibility, perhaps the most obvious one, is to take a "Jason Bourne" route. Amnesia, doesn't remember all the bad stuff done in the past, still has lots of deadly skills which have started to return (as I retrain, heh).

Other thoughts on these types of scenarios?

what I did when I started RPing and wanted to rewrite Nikita's backstory, was to basically have her memories have been altered to something nice and happy and shiny, then, slowly, all the old horrors she committed bled through. Sort of a modified Amnesia.

Finding religion - an actual one, or a cult brainwashing them.

Trans-cranial micro-controllers, or similar technology.

Murder someone, steal their identity. - also Evil twin scenario.

Post-traumatic stress disorder.

I think any of those could be used.

Well, think the multiple poddings is to your advantage RP-wise. Specifically because it happened with un-updated clones. You can base most any kind of crazy you want on there, to alter personality/memories.
