Summer Fruit


'twas not by blinding summer sun
but by the brilliant silver moon
that I did see that precious tree
which brought to me such great delight
sweet blossoms yielding such perfume
to overwhelm any who might stop
and gaze upon the sweet pink flesh
of its beauteous summer fruit
and so it was that by this tree
I did pluck forth the fruit it gave
and savoring its full delights
did eat that luscious summer fruit
then sated lay upon the ground
while the juices filled my mouth
but summer was alas too short
a season cruelly limited
and I did see but only once
that summer fruit whose taste was joy.
