Carbide Dendrites

After half an hour of absent-mindedly operating his directional scanner, Elmund was roused from his stupor. He glanced through the table. He immediately sobered. The entity type read as 'Imperial Navy Slicer'.

He felt his heart pounding. He knew that to be an illusion. He felt a flame igniting. He knew that to be real.

He ignored it and look through his overview. He directed the camera drones towards the most likely beacon on the list and narrowed the scan angle.

His deduction proved right.

He could feel a shock and he ignored it. "Let's see here," he thought. "Nova Javelins can probably hit the Slicer." He made a thoughtful pause, "but we will need to attempt a slingshot, have her burn toward us to less than 20km range."

"We have the Medium Ancillary Shield Booster with three reloads of charges, and a Small Ancillary Armour Repairer for backup, though I am very sure we will need to use that. Our top speed is only 1.1 km/s so catching the Slicer will be an arse. Pator willing, maybe she runs out of capacitor before she could gun us down. Then we can pin her down."

He felt an impatient nudge directed at his being. If he had control over his lungs, he would be sighing.

The Breacher aligned towards the beacon. He could feel a pulse pounding into his being.

"Warp Drive active," Aura announced coolly.

The pounding grew in intensity as the digits shrink on the overview. It was at its crescendo when the warp tunnel collapsed.

He imagined himself grinning and his hands shaking.

"Activate gate," he thought.

Her engines screamed.
