What To Tell
« on: 03 Dec 2014, 03:58 »

This poem was written by Samira for Lunarisse's writing contest. It was never submitted.

What To Tell

They want to know
but what do you tell?

You could tell them you're an angel
a beacon, a bright fire.
You could tell them you shine
with God's holy light,
righteous and pure,
courageous and proud,
You could tell them you deliver salvation
to the slave
and retribution
to the monster.

Or you could tell them you're a liar,
a deceiver beneath sefrim's mask.
You could tell them you're craven,
that you beg and cry
and promise
everything you shouldn't promise.
You could tell them you're the slave,
reaching up for God,
but you want the chains
because you're irresponsible
and you need the whip
because you're reprehensible
and you deserve the spite
because you're despicable.

You could tell them about the lace
and how you feel in
the pink bow ties and white flowers
that only the girl in the mirror sees.
You could tell them about the little lover
that waters your flower.
Or you could tell them you prayed for sin
from a righteous man
or that you made love
to a married man
or that you fuck
a wicked man.

You could tell them about your love
to hate.
You could tell them you smile
when you end a life
You could tell them you enjoy
to share your anger
and be God
just for a little while.

You could tell them about heaven,
the needle that blesses your veins
with sweet, sweet nothing.
Or you could tell them about judgment,
the knife that chastises the liar
and carves out the truth,
so only an angel remains.

What do you tell?

You tell them nothing.

I am not into poetry. I don't have the education for poetry analysis, for deconstructing and so on. I am rather lacking in the literary prowess in this regard.

This? This was amazing. This was fantastic.

Sami may be fucked up, but she's fantastically fucked up.

I don't have any more words for it. This was by far one of the best things ever posted on these boards.

I enjoy the flow of the rhythm, the lines sort of slip and slide from one to the next.
I like the interchange of the imagery presented.

Thank you for the comments. :)

And nothing to apologize for, Luna. OOCly I only wrote this two days ago. I just decided that it made sense that Sami might have ICly written it months ago for the contest but that she decided it was too honest and just shoved it somewhere in her desk instead.

Who is Samira supposed to be telling this information to?

Great read! Sounds like contemplation before confession.

Who is Samira supposed to be telling this information to?

A piece of paper on her desk. Paper is safe. It doesn't have an opinion, it won't judge you, it won't reveal your problems.

In a way, it is a confession. It's the confession she'd never make to an actual priest.
