Smaug's hoard or Draconic memory foam
« on: 17 Jun 2014, 09:53 »

It was suggested to me that Smaug has chosen a particularly uncomfortable bedding.
I disagree.
The scale of a Firedrake when compared to coins would make them seem as tiny discs compared to his bulk, easily displaced by his great weight in the manner of smooth sand or similar.
In addition the softness of the metal contrasted with the body heat of a fire breathing "reptile" would cause the metal to soften as a result of proximity, further moulding the bedding to his shape.
Thus a dragon's hoard would be akin to a memory foam mattress and possibly one of the most comfortable bedding materials available.
Thoughts?

...what? THIS is topic-worthy material now?

All of my whats :3

More on topic, I guess you got a point, but I'll try to not get to involved in this, as the 3rd movie is not out yet and I want to own all 3 before seeing any of them. Want to avoid spoilers and all that.

These movies are the perfect example of a studio system mandating three terrible movies with expanded plodding plotlines when a two-part adventure would have worked just fine.

The Hobbit movies suffer from what I like to call 'epic creep.'  Every fucking thing has to be crucially important, epic and world-changing dangerous.  Shoe-horn in extra characters from the original trilogy, add a bunch of new stuff not in the books, etc.

It's a simple story about a hobbit going on an adventure with a bunch of dwarves, and coming home.  Make it a fun adventure about a hobbit going on an adventure with dragons and spiders and a magic ring.  Don't make it have to tie in with the grand lord of the rings trilogy and shoehorn a bunch of nonsense.

I really liked the first trilogy, hating the hobbit 'trilogy' so much.

Also the 48fps thing makes everyone look like they are on the set of a spanish soap opera with terrible makeup on.

end rant :P

I saw the first Hobbit movie and it did seem like they were trying too hard for Epic.

The Hobbit movies are to Lord of the Rings what the Prequels are to Star Wars IV-VI.

I am pretty sure the statute of limitations on spoilers for the Hobbit expired long before I was born.

Morwen's Law:
1) The number of capsuleer women who are bisexual is greater than the number who are lesbian.
2) Most of the former group appear lesbian due to a lack of suitable male partners to go around.
3) The lack of suitable male partners can be summed up in most cases thusly: interested, worth the air they breathe, available; pick two.

The dragon kills everyone.  Bilbo in LOTR is actually a cavewight passing the ring to Frodo at Sauron's command so that Frodo will bring the ring back to him.  Sauron is a master of 11th dimensional chess.

Tibs, the Dragon IS everyone.  And everyone is the dragon.  Why can't we stop hurting one another, and thus ourselves? *tears roll down my finely crafted weta workshop costume as I am escorted out by studio security*

Have I read the Hobbit long ago and know pretty much everything that will happen? Oh yes, I have.

Is it highly likely they will... ahem, make 'liberal' changes to the plot and such? Yeah, I expected that much, and given the comments in this tread, I was right. So. Waiting for the 3rd one. Least the disappointment will only be fresh over a 1-day period as opposed to be revisited on me twice over after the first one, as it was.

That one dude will use the special arrow to kill the dragon using the blatantly mentioned chink in the dragons armor.  The dragon will crash into the city and destroy it.  The dwarves will get their home back and Bilbo will go home (but not really because you can never really go home again).
