It is a poor metaphor anyways. It has very little to do with Farmville having less variety and no embedded microtransactions. It is a very very simplistic industry interface for timer and location sensitive passive resource gathering/refining. There are tutorial videos on youtube both from CCP and players.

For you inspiration; a few of the "SoE-like" things we do in Ataraxia Pharmacies:
  • Compensate monetarily (buy) Refugees and Homeless and ship them off to shelter camps.
  • Clear out Rogue Drone infestations.
  • Produce medical equipment/components as well as food and livestock in planetary facilities.
  • Produce pharmaceutical drugs (boosters, our specialty).
