DUST 514 Players Speak Up
« on: 15 Jun 2013, 20:26 »

Not exactly unrelated to EvE, and I saw no similar thread, sooo...

Who here plays DUST 514?

We're kicking around an idea, and I need DUSTers to talk to 'bout :stuff:

So speak up!  Show of hands, folks!

I have a PS3 and a DUST account. I do play quite rarely, though.

Is that 'cause your focus is on Eve, or some other reason?

And where's the rest!?  I know there's more...

Poast in my bread, plz.

I play Dust when I have nothing else to do. However, as a student my work level is high enough that this actually comes down to two or three evenings per fortnight.

As Aria and Danak (who has yet to post) know, we're looking at adding a DUST section to Backstage as well as a separate IC forum, mainly to give DUST players the venue CCP hasn't provided yet.

I figure (and I can't speak for the others) that Eve players, having plenty of IC venues as is, would likely only use it for direct interaction with DUSTers to set things up/coordinate actions, but given time it may prove fun and interesting enough for greater participation... Especially if/when CCP expands DUST's scope in terms of regions effected by it.

My question for the DUST folks is this:

What are the sections you feel are needed/would best serve to foster DUST's RP presence and help it grow on an IC forum?

Further, what would be needed by that set of players here on Backstage that we don't have already (feel free to state the obvious... I mean for this thread to be the DUST version of the Smoke-filled Room that gave birth to Silver's brainchild and made Backstage possible)?

Mendov Ishenko of Dead6 reporting in.

I am pretty interested in building an rp haven for the dust community, should CCp not be planning to provideo ne of their own.  Essential sections pretty much follow the standard frame work: IC (general chat, characterisation, corporations), OOC chat, and OOC 'techie' sections (mechanics/fittings/corporations).

Keeping it simple is the name of the game, though I have to state that the Dust community seems to require a bit more policing on the part of moderation teams in other communities than the eve baseline.

Then again nothing worth doing has been both untried and easy.

Dakon Gerrien on the Dust front.

I pretty much mirror Aelisha's comments on this one, and I do agree that there is value in providing a RP-based resource for those that play Dust. We will need to tread lightly, but we should not be fearful of giving it a go.

Silver wants to keep it simple, too, and I agree.  He suggested something like 3 or 4 IC boards each for DUST and EVE, with maybe a specific area for cross-play between the two (though cross-play on the game-specific boards wouldn't be prohibited if I understood him correctly).

The plan currently is for the DUST 514 OOC boards to be added here in their own category, and for DUST fiction to fit right in on the existing fiction boards (DUST PF discussion going on the existing board as well).  This'd give good opportunity for DUSTers who don't play EVE to meet and mingle with us and vice versa, which could only be a good thing imo.

How do you folks think that'd be received?

EDIT:  and what should the IC boards be...?

I have a dust acco, but I don't really play though since me ant the flatmate share the PS3 and Dust isn't really that good either. There's better FPS on PC and quite frankly I feel that is where the FPS genre is at it's best.

Right, it has been a while, but I am finally back and thinking on this topic.

Would it be possible to get an OOC TS meet for those dusties or eve players with dust inclinations, to discuss the rp landscape to identify possible needs in this domain?    I think a voice chat will work significantly better as an initial meet and greet, and to facilitate clear and open communication around the issues that surround this topic, prior to putting down words that may otherwise be misconstrued.

I'd love to see that, or the results of it if I can't make it.

How feasible is it?  Anyone able to get hold of a good handful of interested Dusties to get the word spread, etc?

Anyone got a TS that could be used for it?

I haven't forgotten about this idea - just been delayed.  Would love to see a lot more feedback than what we've seen so far, though!

OOC teamspeak would be a perfect venue, we have admins in place who can create and mod and appropriate room for such discussion so we have a semblance of order to the proceedings.  Address is available in the OOC in game channel MOTD.
