Creation Myths of the Native Population
« on: 16 Mar 2013, 10:47 »

"At the Beginning Time, the world had no plants, or animals, or People.
Then (untranslatable), the Great Sky Cow stepped down from the Heavens.
She gave birth to the Plants, and spread them across the land and sea.
Then she gave birth to the Animals, and spread them across the world.
Finally she gave birth to the First People, our ancestors, and nursed them with the milk of knowledge, giving them the secrets of Speech, Clothing and Tools.
The Great Severing occurred, and (untranslatable) was sad, because she knew she would die, and be unable to return to the Sky.
She said to the First People that she was dying, and they were to take her body and use it to build their homes, as shelter against the coming storms.
And the First People were also sad, but did as she asked.
And that is how we came to live on our world."

Notes:
This is an account by one of the native people that we were able to translate. The name of the "great sky cow" is untranslatable, it is probably a proper name in whatever ancient language the first settlers used.
The "great sky cow" is obviously a colony ship, using what would seem to be frozen genetic material, to populate the planet. From the account of the ship "giving birth" to the "first people", and the "milk of knowledge", it is possible the ship had no crew as such, and used artificial wombs and machines to educate the first humans that it installed on the planet.
The "Great Severing" may refer to the collapse of the EVE Gate some fifteen thousand years ago, or to some other, later catastrophe that prevented the ship communicating with the parent civilisation. This uncertainty could only be resolved if ship artifacts were able to be located and dated. No such artifacts have been found thus far.
Cows are an important symbol in the native culture.

OOC notes:
I had thought of this for some native people of Kaztropol, but I thought it might be a bit much.
It would be suitable for many native populations that may have been encountered in say, the Federation. Or possibly in Amarr space.
