Here are mine. I miss these allready.

Alexander Allisieer AKA BloodBird, back when I made his background more in-tune with his name;

Arivana Faersto, back when she was still Gallente;

Jesmine Aerim Kyriel, back when she still looked the part of a proper Amarrian;

The character filling my 5th account, slated for sale in a few months when her skills are finally finished;

Pretty close.  Morwen begged for the chance to help model the new Reppy, so credit mostly to him.

Of course, I still have a great deal of suppressed rage about the avatar change.

I like how Kentt turned out.  He had to trim his goatee and cut his hair though.  And lol, I always used the older site here.

Here is him on the new site I guess.

Ugh. Seeing these reminds me how much was lost with the new character creator, particularly when it comes to lighting and color, to say nothing of variety and caricature. Maybe it's just me longing for the good ol' days which may not have actually been that good. But still, look at Silas for example. She went from looking like a proper dominant bitch to a grey-haired old hippie.  ;)

It is hard to compare two rather different things. The old avatars and artistic direction for characters was a stylized one, half realistic, closer to a comics look. Now it has changed for something more realistic and closer to our world. I think it is mainly a question of tastes, but it is hard to conciliate the pros of both since they are very specific to each artistic vision.

Now though, as everyone has always said since Incarna, we lack all these accessories to fill the gap.

I like the new models better than the old - more realistic, less comic-like, as has been said. The old ones served a great purpose but with the advance of the new engine we are all better off, IMHO. However, as has been said allready the great lack of identifiable options in clothing, accessories, haircuts and so on kind of kills unique designs and makes everyone look the same. I have major problems seeing the differance between specific bloodlines in the new engine and ofthen have to flip up the descriptions to see what bloodline the toon I'm looking at actually is. Not true for all ofc (Deteis females are easy to spot for instance, but Gallente males and Deteis males ofthen meld, especially wih similar haircuts and clothing options. Intaki males have lost all racial identifiers as there is not one single 'cultural' clothing or accessory option left.) but in most cases the only telling sign is tatoo's and other options and those only tell you what Empire they are from, they don't point out bloodline.

If we simply had the great variety and identity of racial clothing, haircuts and assets back it would be possible to make toons look more unique and less generic, with the added bonus if being able to make, say, a Brutor toon look very 'Intaki' or 'Amarrian' if for instance we RP one that lives with and is loyal to either of those groups, for instance.

It is normal that differences are more subtle in a realistic look. The whole purpose of a stylized look is to exacerbate traits and specificities to a point that it does not look realistic anymore. What we have more now, is maybe bloodlines blending between each other (especially with the new skintones and future bloodline mix) but a lot more variety too. Old avatars, without all their accessories and clothing, were stiff, rigid, and all looked like brothers and sisters for each bloodline.

I really liked Istvaan when he had the absolutely murderous death-glare and the slick-back black hair.

As for my own avatar? http://www.eve-avatars.com/?Andreus%20Ixiris

I don't miss the old one, but personally I think I got my new one looking a lot like him.

Sognec is reasonable (barring the whatever-that-is on his back).  http://eve-avatars.com/?Sognec%20El%27Kendan

The new format (and the Amarr uniforms) made me try to create my vision of Miles Teg, from the later Dune books.  It is obviously not the original vision, but seemed to fit.

Alain is now closer to me IRL, which is somewhat fitting given my SL heritage (where I was in the 'realist' group).

Me in SL:  http://sungak.net/weblog/wp-content/uploads/2007/12/alan.jpg

An early version of Alain tried to match the original, but I found that I could not replicate the elongated head (which is what endeared me to that avatar type - it reminded me of a Spelljammer race called the 'Arcane').

Also he is no longer cross-eyed.

True.   :lol:

Both portraits were made hurriedly, since I knew from early research that the 'real' avatar in the game was the ships.  And that aspect tended to be hidden, in the smaller pics seen in chat or the old forum.

Much as I miss the old Aria, the new one worked out so well that I haven't changed her outfit since for fear that I'd have to redo the image. I gather the system no longer allows for this camera angle.
