I got the Trinity expansion, so Sins + Entrenchment + diplomacy.

Never played online and i've been trying to beat the AI on hugemaps (5 stars, 100~ planets) on the third level of difficulty....but not good enough yet.

I quite like the game....

That's really unfortunate because Stardock is pretty firmly in the anti-DRM camp.

Yes, definitely worth it.  http://sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com/wiki/Diplomacy

There is apparently a third expansion in the pipe: Rebellion.
  • New Factions: Players decide whether to become Loyalists or Rebels, which unlocks a unique new tech tree granting them new technologies and ship variants.
  • New Titan-class ships: Massive warships for each race that dwarf capital ships, these deadly new monsters are capable of wiping out entire enemy fleets single-handedly.
  • New Capital Ships: A new capital ship class arrives, giving players new strategic options.
  • New Corvette-class ships: Small, highly maneuverable light ships that are adept at a variety of tasks.
  • Loyalist and Rebel versions of some of the existing Sins' frigates and cruisers, each with their own unique strengths and weaknesses.
  • Updated lighting and particle effects for enhanced visuals.
  • New Victory Conditions to allow for more variety, differing strategies and shorter game sessions.
  • Additional capital ship ability levels, for greater strategic choice.

I know cash flow is a concern for you right now and whether you pirate a piece of software is your choice, but Stardock goes out of their way to trust the average gamer by not dropping nasty rights management shit on their machine with the games they publish.  It's a conscious stance and one that makes them stand out in a field dominated by evil faceless megacorps like EA.  Besides indies, if there's any game publisher you should consider giving your money to when you can afford to do so, it's them.

While EVE may have biased me against supercaps , the idea of different victory conditions is really appealing, especially if we were going to try and to any sort of RP thing that involved more than "I control everything, I win."

I will have to look into these expansions, they sound tasty.

The new capitals, according to the rumor I buy into, are apparently some sort of specialty capitals that fill in logistical gaps. Haven't heard anything about supercaps or caps+1.

Also, Vasari player here. 5 minutes in planet killing of the enemy's homeworld has never been more fun

This trailer alone has awoken the urge in me to go back into the modding community.

I like the implications of Gallentians being punched in the face by walking up to a Minmatar as they so freely use another person's culture as a fad.

It's a new game altogether, they are not using the existing engine.

I see it billed as a stand-alone, but nothing about it being a new engine entirely. ???

Yeah, I went and downloaded Diplomacy last night, it was cheap. Looking at Rebellion though, I'm a little hesitant. It's only up for preorder yet, and it's $40 - not that that's a huge sum, but it's a little less palatable than a $20 game and two $10 expansions over a few years.

We'll see what it looks like when it comes out and there are a few reviews.
