CCP Navigator moding?
« on: 29 Jun 2011, 15:56 »

So, before I stick my head out too much, does anyone know what in the world CCP Navigator is talking about when he locked this thread?  Linky

Was there some OOC stuff that he deleted, or does he think everyone was talking about IRL relationships?

I would guess the latter. Just speculation, you'd have to petition or contact CM for an actual answer.

Having read the original and second thread I had no idea that there were OOC issues mixed in until Nav locked it down.

Everything appeared IC and there didn't seem to be any RL names, situations, etc. pointed out...at least not on an OOC level.

So yeah. Nav be powertrippin.

I think he might have been assuming that the initial post was just an attempted troll on Gradient and not a "true IC discussion" - just a troll couched in IC terms.

(Discussion about if this was a troll, was/was not IC, whether "IC trolls" are acceptable on IGS, and how many other IGS threads are trolls is not something I intend to debate. I am presenting what I am assuming Navigator's view of the thread.)

For reasons entirely separate from Navigator's, however, this thread probably shouldn't turn toward the appropriateness of the action described in the linked OP.

Maybe he's just tired of Dame too, just like the rest of us?

Protip: No shirt avatar is a pretty tell-tale sign of a Dame alt. That and I know all his alts, if only because I've been banning every last of them from all our channels. So yeah -_-

Well, I did not quite expect that this kind of thread would make me register here, but ok. Hi all! :-)

I have no idea why that thread was locked, or why it was locked with that reason.

Someone mentioned that they thought about reporting it because it's just one more item in a rather lengthy history of p(Dame Death) seriously harassing multiple members of Electus Matari using alts. He just can't take a "leave me alone". (Most of this was kept internal to EM, some of it spilled to the public, e.g. here or here)

Whether that actually was the reason for CCP Navigator to lock that thread I can't say. If it was, it would be impossible for him to explain why he was locking it - CCP does not reveal details of their customer relations, so he can't say "this is harassment". Nonetheless, what he wrote wasn't a particularly useful explanation, either.

Personally, I didn't mind the thread much - it was certainly on the more harmless side of what he has done in the past, it was pretty clear that he was completely exaggerating what he had heard for the purpose of slander, and it did create some RP for us.

But I can totally understand people being just sick of that player.

I have a list of 18 names here. Is there a reason not to share them on these forums? I don't want to run into some kind of cultural taboo with my first post. :-)

I wasn't really sure what to make of it - at least the "There's nothing IC about this" part, because that seemed inaccurate. I had heard the Gradient had put in an IC corp policy that said 'no fraternizing with enemies', and regardless of how boneheaded I think such a policy is, it's their decision. While Dame's rambling may often cross IC and OOC lines, I really didn't see a lot of OOC in that thread. That said, with something like corp policy, things like that are both IC and OOC - does that mean that because something is policy OOC as well as IC, we can't discuss it on IGS IC?

[mod]While alts aren't the same as RL personal info, I don't think posting a list of alts in a public thread would be a good idea. :) [/mod]

[mod]Speaking as a member of the staff, I would ask that you do so privately, and my personal preference would be that it be done off of this forum. See Rule #7. (This is not to say that I personally don't condone the sharing of lists of his alts between those who wish to not have to interact with him, but this is not the place for it.)[/mod]

... And, taking off the modhat for a moment, I do struggle a little to see how the thread could be construed as OOC, personally. It provided some interesting insight and added some grey color to the public image of EM - something I always knew was there, but it rarely if ever gets brought up in public.

That said, it was a Dame thread. It was doomed to be locked from the moment he started typing the first post.

1) The number of capsuleer women who are bisexual is greater than the number who are lesbian.
2) Most of the former group appear lesbian due to a lack of suitable male partners to go around.
3) The lack of suitable male partners can be summed up in most cases thusly: interested, worth the air they breathe, available; pick two.

This, pretty much. It realyl read much like an thinly-veield OOC smear on EM to me, and the Veto guy answering was more in-character than the OP was. I'm guessing this is why Navigator locked it up - he might also have locked it because someone flagged it as OOC and described why, then read it for himself, agreed and closed it off.

Either way, as useful as it might have been, if it was indeed a Dame tread - as you claim - and if they do indeed go as badly as you think - linked evidence might say so - then I for one think it was a good move, overall.

Besides, the OP toon pretty much said it was impossible to say it in private, ergo said OP was blocked/banned from doing so. I don't know much of EM, but they don't have a history of banning/blocking folks for no reason., so that should be rather telling, too.

It's highly likely that Navigator is completely unacquainted with RPing (particularly marriage and that sorta thing etc.) that he may have assumed it was pertaining to a RL one.

If Navigator has to read IGS and moderate it appropriately, I'm fairly certain he would understand at least that aspect of RP, Seriphyn. The only part I can see as being obviously OOC is a reference to requesting chatlogs; corporation and fleet logs can be passed off as IC, but there is little IC reason to keep full "security files" of private encounters (as the poster seems to be suggesting).

Nobody has considered opening a petition to find out why the thread has been locked?
