There is plenty of similar work done with the soldiers that have been wounded in the Iraq war.

There is a few TED talks about it.

Why fiddle with an expensive mechanical hand when you can simply get the hand of a dead guy?

Being a biomedical engineer myself and knowing the world of mechanical prosthetics, I chuckled a bit when he mentioned that the hand had three degrees of freedom.
