When I originally got stuck into EVE I was a Caldari pilot, and as I am sure everyone can understand missioning in a drake that is litterally impossible to kill but does F***all DPS gets boring. Fast.
So I kept the char but specced into Minmatar... but got bored half way through and did Gallente too! While completely forgetting about any support skills, specialisations or anything - so he had a fair amount of SP, but in completely random and annoying areas, it took me nearly a full year to amend this and by that time I simply up'd and sold the c***.
So thus, I rolled Math'ra earlier before I sold Tuvar (So I had income, because by that time I actually figured out how to make a Raven that didn't pop when you so much as looked at it funny) and taught myself PvP by using High-sec belts around Caldari space as my preying areas.
I maintain to this day that it was the single most fun I have ever had in EVE, a low-skill pilot taking on just about anyone who went flashy to me and to my knowledge I only lost once, my most memoriable kill was when I beat a Scorpion, Drake and 3 backup frigs. Solo.
After that I didnt ever roll another char again, well I had a Mining alt I never used, sold him and then made Durtha whom I specced for Gallente/minmatar with a specific plan in mind.
So I guess I managed to control myself quite well because I always thought "I am SO fed up with this, I want to try... blasters! OR MAYBE AUTOCANNONS!" But I learnt my lesson originally, now I have a Capital Capable PvP pilot who can do some sort of stupid DPS to most targets and put even some of the most experienced pilots to shame.
In the end its what you enjoy most, but if you have ever dreamed of undocking in a Capital.... yeah, you REALLY need to stick with it, but that first time when you do it? Bwahaha... oh the joy is great.
(I still dont care that all I ever use my carrier for is a) spinning b) cyno-bitching. Its MINE
