Pve has a whole bunch of odd situations that come up regularly.

Missions for the Amarr Navy in the middle of Domain where apparently a diplomatic meeting between the Gallente and Minmatar is taking place.

RSS missions that prevent the Amarr navy from virus bombing Ashab and Penirgman.

Theology Council agents telling you not to let any religious Amarrians know about your genetically modified cargo.

And ofc, the never-ending invasions of the likes of Dodixie or Motsu.

How do you deal with that? Someone asks you "how was your day?", and you've run into these sorts of things, how do you reply?

If the mission is A) relatively minor and B) interesting, I might take it into my RP once or twice. The level 3 avenge a fallen comrade vs the DED out in Stain, for instance. I used that with one of my alts as the victim of the DED attack and talked about it in Summit for a while.

Miscellaneous missions that don't affect the world are the easiest ones to use, i m o.

So the isk in your character's wallet is OoC isk?  Or do the mighty egger that they are have a mysterious benefactor?  Or did they make all their wealth through trade/a solid paycheck?

*typing on phone

For myself, at least, it is the current approved discretionary spending budget for their unit supplied by Mordu's.

I would hate to be Krull's homeowners insurance agent.

Once while dual boxing, I killed Zor in two different systems at the exact same time.

Should faction war PVE be taken more literally than empire missioner PVE?

Should faction war PVE be taken more literally than empire missioner PVE?

I think it might be, because of the beacons? FW missions put up a beacon don't they? So anyone can come along and see things going on?

Like, Player A is doing a mission, Player B turns up, observes A doing things. Players C and D also see a beacon in system.

Like that mission where you've to shoot some industrial ships. Anyone in system would see a beacon appear, and if they flew over, they'd see a player ship fire on the industrials, wouldn't they?

Like, if you shoot Zor or Kruul in a normal mission, pretty much it would only be you who would know it was Zor (again). Unless the mission was probed.

But in a FW mission, if someone turns up at the beacon, they'd see what was going on, and possibly mention it to other people, e.g. in intel channels. "Pilot A, in system X, missioning."

Pilot A is then placed, by multiple people, as being in system X, doing stuff.

Dunno about the plexes though, those things are rather odd as to explain what is going on. Orbit a doodad, ignore the npcs, win?  :s

I ignore such odd situations. No point getting worked up about things.

I just think of missions on a fairly abstract level. "RSS paid me to shoot some Amarr" or "another rogue drone infestation in Eram" or such; I ignore any details that might get confusing and/or repetitive. The abstraction and the isk paid (and who pays it) I consider IC.

Pretty much with Elsebeth on this. My character has done work for x corporation in Y region and frequently fought Z. Take the repetitive, literal actions and mold the gray areas for character interaction or development. It's been the best way to handle those situations from my point of view.

I agree with Elsebeth too. I don't much care to get into details. Yesterday I did a few more missions on one of characters while RP'ing with another person in the fleet. I was constantly aware of how bizzare it seemed that there were allways more pirates to kill, ofthen in the very same mission types, over and over, so it was mostly just along the lines of 'got another job in that system, stay put' etc. There is hardly any point getting into details as that soon touches on the never-ending and repeatative anture of PVE. Pirates never learn or lack numbers etc.

I do what I always do, blow up the structures and go home.

... on a more serious note, I don't think I've ever run across one of these conflicting PvE instances, because I primarily work for CPF if I'm doing any serious missioning for monies, and there's nothing immersion breaking about those - in fact, I think its the epitome of immersion that I'm often sent by CPF agents to kill traitor CPF agents, informants, smugglers, etc.

That being said, if something came up that broke my perception, I suppose I would have to do my best to ignore it and/or rationalize it. I hope CCP does their part, but, we do have to work with what we have.

If anyone told me they had "done work" for some faction, I'd have no grounds to question it, either way. vOv

If it was possible, I'd totally re-roll Dossie's standings to fit in with the RP, but it's not possible.
I don't take character standings into account as people who run Caldari missions would have terrible Guristas standings and high State, even if they're playing a Gurista. Or Gallente missioners that RP as Serp but have bad standings to the Corp/Faction.
I have added some small  bits of mission running or plex'ing into my RP, but that's rare and only when the situation warrants it, or I can't think of anything interesting to write about.

The only exception I can think of is FW pilots RP'ing that they're FW Capsuleers. Then the standings will reflect what's said in their RP.
