Incorrect. CnC the genre lost such status long ago.

Frank Klepacki, however, is God incarnate.

Indeed. CnC lost that status a while ago, and with the existence of C&C4 it is quite officially a raped corpse in an alley, left for the dogs to screw and then eat.

Post-EA Buyout Westwood has been garbage.

Pre-EA Buyout Westwood was the best in the business. To this day Dune2k and C&C1 are the only RTS games I personally feel are worth a damn.

I remember when anything with the "Westwood" title on the box meant days without sleep.

Red Alert, the first one, was the last C&C game that I played though.

I mean pre-EA, guys.

The only EA title that was alright was Red Alert 2, actually that was fun. Since then, anything sucked (Generals had some cool multiplayer.)

Seems like someone has a case of 90s nostalgia.

You can't forget games from the 2000s: Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes.

I rather liked C&C3, not the gameplay, but the story was good, and at its heart, it still was a C&C game.

as for C&C4....we don't talk about it....

I loved all of them up to Tiberian Sun... Tiberian Sun wasn't horrible, but it wasn't RA1 by any stretch.

RA3, however, was an insult. They should let the franchise die and let us remember it how it was.

....Supreme Commander....

If you're gonna bring up SupCom, you have to bring up Total Annihilation too. It's like, a law, man.

And since this started out as a game music thread:

Indeed, which in fact was superior in my view, in terms of playability.

With respect to the C&C series, I would agree that the C&C1->RA2, incl. Generals was quite nicely playable. That which followed was a paltry homeopathic dose of the awesomeness that had otherwise typified their prestigious line of games.

Company of Heroes has replaced command and conquer as the RTS with the keys to my heart, command and conquer and I had a beautiful relationship, but I have left it for more interesting and better balanced games with gameplay beyond sending blobs of units at an enemy and trying to survive the next superweapon.

Personally, I'm hungering for more fun RTS games without all the micromanagement. Kind of like C&C was known for. Kind of like Starcraft 2 with less micro and more macro. That'd be awesome. Hrm... think I might reinstall RA3 though. I did find that quite enjoyable, even though it wasn't anywhere near the previous iterations of the game.

That's pretty much Supcom, its super macroey, you really don't micro anything cause most stuff dies in one or two hits
