Such brave
Very #gamergate
So integrity
Sarcastically wow

"#GamerGate supporters try to silence calls for video game equality"

Very classy, very typical, so not surprised this is right under the headline. Actively trying ot destroy gaming is now a campaign for "video game equality." I mean ofc it is. These people don't know what that damn word even fucking means.

These spin-doctors, I'm surprised they are not all in hospitals being treated for extreme forms of self-inflicted whiplash by now.

TLDR:  Big Publishers pay youtube 'reviewers' and game sites for contractually obligated positive reviews and press

And lets not forget that you can buy YouTube views from the same people that sell Twitter followers, now.

I often wonder if today's youth culture has the required cynicism and critical thinking skills to at least understand and possibly reject the marketing forces manipulating them, but it seems advertising and branding have gotten them at such a young as to make them unawares.

Previous generations at least had identifiable things to push against (that of course get co-opted and sold back to them; see punk music, etc).

Today's youth seem not interested in at least the appearance of not being wrapped up so voluntarily in corporate marketing.  Interesting times

I actually view it as a positive trend. It is better to be aware of the corporate influence and accept it than to think you are antiestablishment when you are in fact nothing of the sort.

It's one thing to accept it, it's another thing being bathed in it and not even being aware of it.

I have absolutely zero doubts of which one is the answer for most youths.

Also, I don't see accepting it as positive either, quite the contrary. I don't accept it, but I live with it and deal with it and eat crows with it because what can I fucking do, heh ?

That is accepting it.

And people dramatically underestimate the awareness of 'young people.' They know full well what their influences are. They just don't care.

I don't see how it is.

And I also disagree on the awareness of young people, except for a few minority.

Much in the same way that fruit loops accept the milk with every spoonful.

No industry doing $60-odd billion in sales a year is getting destroyed by -anything-

There are amounts of money and industry might directed with such precision and ferocity at the consumer as to make resistance impossible.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I still read gaming magazines for the pretty pictures.

Another blog did a "So what's Gamer Gate about anyways?" post that was long and pretty thoroughly slanted.

One of the comments did a better job summing it up:

Quote
Too long.

"What is #GamerGate?"

"Ever met a dipshit teenager who thought he was oppressed? This is another form of that."

I don't think I've ever met someone who reads internet comments thoroughly enough to be able to quote them.
