Now I'm more interested in the conversations between all the bodyguards and close personal protection all loitering around together just outside the door to every capsuleer establishment. Or no conversations at all, because an intelligent protection detail would not want to drop accidental intelligence falling into other's hands. Or maybe they would, because their employer directed them to drop misinformation into their rival's hands via innocuous discussions.

Mmm. Schemes and schemes.

Unless they're all just standing there staring at each other in silence behind their sunglasses.

Arm wrestling, throwing dice, playing cards. Hopscotch.

Thinking about it, I will give Elmund an invisible security detail, consisting of ten drones (same chasis as the one he had been developing and iterating on for quite some time now). Eight will be refitted, with Nova Blades instead of manipulators and technical tools on the 'palpus' and front 'legs' as well as nanites programmed to melt biological materials, to be injected via the 'fangs'. The other two will be the usual technician drones, but with upgraded AI package to accommodate 'demolitionist' and 'saboteur' programs.

All ten are usually out of sight, crawling through drains, pipes, vents and along ledges and rooftops. When staying in any premises for more than five minutes the technician drones will proceed to rig anything that can be rigged in the area in anticipation of 'Code Red'. Once 'Code Red' is initiated, all the rigged electronics, circuitry and machinery will short-out/explode/make alot of racket. The guardian drones will then exploit the opportunity granted to ambush the attackers from their hiding spots while Elmund escapes/whips-out-improvised-flamethrower/primes-and-throws-plastic-explosives-disguised-as-cigarette-boxes. If situation is too severe, Elmund will escape, initiate 'Code Black-A', upon which the technician drones will activate all the demolition charges (improvised) in response.

So, whenever discussions of personal arms or martial art capabilities come up, a significant amount of people respond that their characters have security details and thus don't need to be effective themselves.

Yet, I almost never see anyone RP that they are walking around with a security detail. Why?

Agree with some of the other posts - if you bring along your security detail you are paving the way for some godmodding and conflicting accounts possibilities.  Capsuleer A's heavily-armed gun-toting entourage would probably not be welcome in Capsuleer B's special security location, to the point of being pew pewed on site for some capsuleers.

I see the security details/etc being used more often in 'neutral' locations for set pieces or fiction where how they are used can be a bit more controlled.

S. has a cadre of rather dour personal guards somewhere between the Imperial Guards from Return of the Jedi and the 'Blood Pack' from Blade II.

Though I rarely have used them in RP, Jace's group are similar. Modeled after the police from the Total Recall remake. Just been too lazy to remove the police emblems, switch in my own and change the colours.

But from the sound of people's responses, it seems like OOC heads up would be preferred for most venue channels.

Well, i always rp some bodyguards when Shanty have to walk around, but like Katrina, she rely more in bribes, fake identities and a powerful customized personal shield

Two whole days on Backstage without a post is just creepy, so...

Why not, Tib? Standard bittervet-ness, or IC reasons? Or just rarely play anymore?

I suppose you could run with the idea that a visible escort would be practical in public. However in another person's secure area you are trusting them to behave and moderate the behaviour of their guests.

If they don't then firstly very few people will come to visit them. And secondly they will rapidly accumulate a lot of annoyed people with money to throw at professionals who can make the offender regret their actions.

Simca had a security detail of some people she served/trained with when she was in Legion. I originally didn't have one for her, but I made them after she started dating Katrina so we could RP her guards interacting with mine which was fun. Upon her return Simca will probably still have guards but less, probably just 2-4 instead of the 6 or so she had, and they'll be drones of some type and not actual humans.

Its amazing where you can bring a 12 gauge with miniaturization and some very realistic fake skin.

Security detail are for people who can't stay incognito. Being able to blend into the populace is better. Hoodie and high collars are the way.

Anyone who goes around announcing that he is a capsuleer superstar is begging to be met with an unfortunate accident in some alleyway.

That's how Charles handles things. Low profile, low priority, blending in, et cetera. Since the Federation's baseliners often treat capsuleers as celebrities, it's sort of required that he doesn't draw attention to himself. Other than that, when he needs security, he makes sure to hire people that are just as inconspicuous as him; they're patrons at the bar he's at, people, maybe the bartender, who knows? You don't, that's for damn sure.

Failing that, he has minor training in beating the shit out of people* and running. Also a pretty impossibly high pain (and pleasure) tolerance.

Ibrahim has no bodyguards of any sort unless he's somewhere very exposed (like touring the estate). On station, even in public venues, the risks are usually low and diminish significantly when one considers he primarily frequents capsuleer/VIP exclusive areas which will have their own measures in place. Add to that a kind grandfatherly visage, the frail helplessness of an old man, and the promise that retribution will be swiftly received but only slowly brought to completion.

Also, always kill someone who wants to kill you before they know they want to.

So he looks like an old man but can actually perform a perfect clothesliner? I recall that capsuleers are far from frail physically as they had to be fit enough to tolerate the rigours of space travel (that means lots of bumping around when the ships enter warp, jumps or flips on the microwarp/jump drive, if there's no pod goo to cushion the shock)
