PSA: CCP shutting down old character portrait server

tl;dr - some 2 years and 9 months after Incursion, CCP is shutting down the server that hosted the legacy character portraits. This means that even player-hosted portrait comparison tools will no longer function, as they still pulled from CCP's database. Under the current plan, it will be kept open until the 28th to allow people to grab what pictures they want, then closing forever.

At current, Chribba is trying to get CCP to hand him the complete database so that he can host it. No word on that yet.

I liked one or two of my old ones, the old Khanid male portraits had some character to them. Won't really miss the rest, old Vicky was pretty terrible.

Update: The operator of the website Evewho is attempting to make a mass-download of old character photos. Unfortunately, he cannot do mass-requests and is limited to individually querying each character profile, receiving the image, saving it to his own servers, and moving onto querying the next. Even with an automated script doing this, he is throttling his attempts so as not to get his IP flagged (or melt his servers from stress).

As of 12 hours ago, he had downloaded over 250,000 image with another 1.3 million to go.

For some reason I only have a sightly cropped image, missing out Kala's old badass topknot and incredibly low cut shirt >_>
