Depressing stuff, but hopefully incidents like this will cause enough raised hackles to get some changes rolling.  Sharing as instructed.

Corporate censorship. Well, at least TB has more than enough support and has a big enough name for him to get away with glaring down corrupt devs.

I admit, sometimes I really struggle to understand what goes through peoples' minds when they try silliness like this.

"Hey. Hey guys. Let's try to surpress some information. It's on the internet - you know, that thing where millions and millions of people talk to each other."

It's like standing in the middle of a crowded auditorium, hearing someone say something mean about you, and bawling out at the top of your lungs "STOP SAYING [X] ABOUT ME I DON'T LIKE IT!" More people will stare than if you'd given him a nasty look and moved on.

I'm (ironically) reminded of the time that Yahtzee took shit for, of all things, not having much bad to say about one of the games he was doing a critique of.

I think the lesson I'm taking away from this most is that businesses in general - not just in the video game industry - are absolutely 120% shit at PR and expectation management.

Morwen's Law:
1) The number of capsuleer women who are bisexual is greater than the number who are lesbian.
2) Most of the former group appear lesbian due to a lack of suitable male partners to go around.
3) The lack of suitable male partners can be summed up in most cases thusly: interested, worth the air they breathe, available; pick two.

Confirmed. Some of the most hilariously fail case studies I reviewed while studying PR came from game companies.

Second runner up was drug companies.

Oh the irony...

I would've figured you'd put video game companies and drug manufacturers as #2 and #3.

Because MMO developers are both at the same time.

No kidding.

The reason I can only be a part-time EVE player is because I'm almost a full-time WoW addict.  Every time I think I've kicked the habit or changed games, I come back for a month.  The month turns into a year or two.  WoW is the crystal meth of video games, only releasing you when you're finally burnt out and completely spent.

Interesting.  I've tried WoW several times, but I've always got bored with it - my record was lvl 40.  That's not a bad slice of gameplay, quite a few hours, but in the end it just became 'so what?'.  Too much repetition, both in terms of content and gameplay.  I regularly hear about WoW being horribly addictive, and I'm still not sure why.  Was I missing something, or was I just the wrong audience?

Same here, and I've tried several times. Made it to level 52 with a Warlock, but that was it.

Once you make it to the endgame, yeah, it's very horribly addictive.  I was doing raids thrice weekly and spending the other days grinding materials for it.  Especially now, when you can level essentially any way you want.  They brought in experience for PVP and professions, but there's a lot more PVE variety in WoW than in EVE.  It just takes a lot more research, since techniques change from raid to raid and boss to boss.  I'd say it's a lot less about correctly itemizing for playstyle and more about being able to fluidly react to changing environments.  And if PVE is all about that, the PVP stuff puts raiders to shame.

It's almost like you finally get bored of something, but there's a completely different thing to do that just sucks you in.  I did pet battling for 6 months.  For a glorified Pokemon ripoff, it just drinks your life.

If you only got to 40 and stopped, leave it that way.  If you ever develop a network of friends there and really get an instance group going, it's very hard to stop.

I got to end game once. Tried to become full time backstabbing bastard rogue and realised, eh, they neutered the whole backstabbing thing and only gave me limited number of places to backstab people with impunity.

Then I reduced my play time and eventually stopped entirely.

YMMV - I finished the quests and got to the endcap and trashed my disks and unsubbed rather than do the same series of dungeons OVER AND OVER AGAIN for eternity.

I was a huge WoW player for a few years. I don't miss the game, but I miss Northrend and how Dalaran was in late Wrath. Leading me to suspect that a lot of it is not so much the game but who you are while you're playing it and who you're playing it with -- and the thing about WoW is that everyone plays it, so.
