The fact that we immediately begin conspiracy theorycrafting is pretty excellent. I think its pretty funny how paranoid TonyG made all of us in regards to that sort of thing. This has been an utterly beautifully executed arc and I'm very very happy with it.

I've enjoyed the arc overall - Even though I've not touched it much since it has very little to do with my character - But I'll echo the people saying that I'm sad that they felt the need to kill off Midular.

EVE is, and this is perhaps the thing that puts me off the setting the most, a world with seemingly very few strong female characters. Though I understand that much of this is the work of TonyG (though my understanding of that is second hand, I couldn't get even half through those horribly written doorstoppers) killing off one of the very few that seemingly were, in the interests of advancing a plot mostly circulating around male characters, is.... Unfortunate.

It speaks very poorly of future changes being made away from that direction.

I'd like to hope we see more strong female characters pop up. We don't know who is going to end up where when everything is done getting shuffled. For all we know, we could see a female leader of the Caldari or Minmatar. I'm willing to give CCP a bit more benefit of the doubt.

A few possibilities on what happens next:
  • The Sebistor delegates assassinate Gerne Broteau.
A rather predictable turn of event, and frankly not very interesting. For the story to be good, both sides need to good/bad. And with the Minmatar being the "bad" ones at Colelie they should should not take that role again. But of course, "Gallente are CCP's favorites".
  • Gerne Broteau is not convicted.
Either due to claim of insanity or, even better, a loophole in Gallente law. Perhaps the best one is the case having to be dropped due to a "technical error". Following this, scenario one is better acceptable.
  • Gerne Broteau is not the real killer.
Perhaps this is only found out after a conviction and/or assassination. Lots of intrigues to spin on this one.

I like scenario 2, I think. Followed by him being killed in a deniable way. That way, everyone assumes it was the Minmatar, but there is no direct proof.

4. Independent investigations reveal/hint that Gerne Broteau was a Black Eagle/acted on behalf of the Black Eagles. The Black Eagles were keeping it close to their chest for the last month in order to have time to plant false evidence and clean up anything that could be used to indict them.

Only reason I can see the Federation having kept it under wraps this whole time.

Can we stop pretending like RL Law Enforcement agencies discuss their investigations while they happen? Is the totally unrevealing phrase "We are pursuing several lines of Inquiry" really not familiar to you? While the Suspect's name is given to the press before conviction in some countries, by no means is this a world-wide phenomena (and with minors, many countries hide their names entirely).

I'm really having a hard time with the knuckle-headedness of some of the conspiracy theories in the IGS which rely entirely on this premise. Particularly from members of Capsuleer groups which tout themselves as "Law Enforcement" corporations, and police regions of space on their own (I'm not singling out any particular people with this because it's been Amarr, Caldari, and Minnie Space-Pigs doing this, and also I suspect I'd get Catacombed for DoinItWrong).

Not only does keeping your mouth shut during investigations keep the Criminals in the dark, IT ALSO KEEPS VIGILANTES FROM GETTING IN THE WAY. This is Standard Practice in Law Enforcement.
And as we have seen, Vigilantism is CLEARLY something that would have happened in this particular case, had there been suspected accomplices, even at the highest levels of Republic Government. No shit they didn't tell the Republic anything if agitation was that high from the start.

I'm not a Gallente RPer, so I haven't really read-up on Gallente Law Enforcement PF, but I suspect that keeping live investigations under wraps is very standard practice.

So, probably the best way for us to get the info would be fore CCP to position whatever comes out as leaks to the relevant news organizations, rather than press releases.

I don't think it should have been released to the public, but FFS, the republic diplomats or what-have-you should have been involved. If a US senator got whacked in a friendly country, you can bet that even if the press wasn't being told, the FBI would have observers on the scene paying attention to what was going on and sharing intel as seemed appropriate.

If the Republic had said "republic police are cooperating with Federation forces to evaluate all possibilities" then that would be end of the issue. The pod pilots would know that "top people" we're working on the problem, and a months delay before details hit the press would be fine.

The republic was saying "We want to know what's going on, and the Fed aren't telling us anything" Which is quite different from the Press complaining about not being told anything.

Weren't the Republic grievances more about extradition? I don't remember reading anything about the Republic being kept in the dark. There were mentions to the contrary about high-level discussions between President Jacus Roden and Sanmatar Shakor. It would not surprise me there was weekly closed door talks.

They could also release false claims during an investigation to lure possible criminals associated with the culprit into thinking themselves safe. Like, telling that they found no proof of any relations with exterior associates and he was a lone nutcase.

This. None of us are saying that the Federation should have released information about the investigation to the press or the public. But they definitely should have been coordinating and cooperating with Republic authorities and conducting a joint investigation considering the incident affected both nations.

I think we all know what really happened here. It's pretty clear this was a secret Black Eagle operation and that this guy is a stooge put in place by the FIO to throw the Minmatar off the scent. What about the fact that in some of the footage from the scene there is the distinct sound of a second shooter? What about the grassy knoll!? In this film, you can clearly see her head going back, and to the left! WHAT IS THE FEDERATION TRYING TO HIDE?

Yeah. That's where this is going. Which isn't to say that there's a giant conspiracy behind it, but there's no way anyone will ever prove there wasn't to the satisfaction of the Minmatar.
