On another note though I was a bit bummed about Midular. It seemed like there was far more story potential to keeping her alive rather than so arbitrarily killing her off.

Maybe they rolled a dice or something?

Also, I'd be even more dissapointed if all Empire leaders meet their demise in les than one year. I mean yes, housekeeping is needed but that would be poor storytelling as well, to just get rid of characters who have been developed. Horribly developed but developed nonetheless.

Midular was a salvageable character. She should have been given her strength back, and become a factor in cluster-wide politics again.

By killing her off, all they did was continue TonyG's legacy by continuing to portray her as a butt monkey.

Shakor is the one that needed to get shot in the head, not Midular.

Midular was pretty damaged by TEA. As a supposed Politically competent person, she seemed to have lost it completely and turned into fluff. I'm not sure she was "salvageable" as a credible leader again, even though she used to be my favourite.

Of course she was salvageable. That's not like she was Eturrer, beyond repairs. Even Aritcio has been salvaged, so why not her ? 

We just have to see how much grieved she now is ICly. Imagine if she had survived. She could have almost overthrown Shakor himself with good enough circumstances.

As much as her death helps Shakor immensely on the short run (yarr, let's attack all the Feds to avenge her), she also becomes a martyr for Republic moderates, that have had a hard time since she got evicted (boo traitor, booo).
