RP forbids that Lyn ever asks.

1) She is asocial, so she will obviously rarely do the first step to anything, even if her it sure is like candies to her.

2) She would consider it rather crude or impolite to ask again. "Can I come in your home visit your library ? You told that you would ask for the permission !" She would rather die than asking something like that to strangers. She would have done so when she was 5, not 26.  :P

Woah, this thread blew up way faster then I expected. I'm glad - I was kind of worried posting about those issues would turn out to be a bad idea.

Some of the last few posts have brought another issue I have to mind, actually. It might even be worse then the other two.

I'm bad at initiating private roleplay. I always get very anxious that I'll be bothering someone when I consider doing it, or catch them at a time when they're not in the mood, OOCly, and become a nuisance. As a result, I end up usually leaving it to others - Which probably makes things feel considerably one sided, and probably ends up putting people off more then what I actually try to avoid.

I tried to help the situation by incorporating the trait into my character ICly and seeing if she'd just organically become more assertive over time (Nothing like solving OOC problems by means of roleplay) But it's really just made it worse.

Can understand that feeling, Gwen.

In my case, if it's not a good time I'm generally happy to schedule something at a time that does work, so don't let that stop you from asking me if there's a need. :)

1) The number of capsuleer women who are bisexual is greater than the number who are lesbian.
2) Most of the former group appear lesbian due to a lack of suitable male partners to go around.
3) The lack of suitable male partners can be summed up in most cases thusly: interested, worth the air they breathe, available; pick two.

Being the asshole that corrects everyone when they're wrong on the extranet has recently had Cael looking like a Federal loyalist. Which bothers the crap out of me because there's a whole aspect to his character and his solid disagreements with the political and social direction his land of birth is taking that I never get to play out.

Can people go rag on falsely about the other 3 empires please  :bash:

The old/new Seph thing is rough, sounds like you miss playing the old guy.

Sometimes, yes. I miss the Ordo, digging secrets, going places Catillah can't go, etc. But I also realize old-seph's story came to a dramatic but nice closure, and that it can't come back: the people are not the same, nor do I have the time to bring the Ordo back into a propper existance. It would be like bringing back a ghost, as someone here said (sorry, don't remember now!) and I prefer playing a diferent character, with new options than trying to feel nice with a shadow of a former self. So yes, I miss him sometimes, but I'm glad most of the time with the choice.

I feel you on this. I hate having to ask what something means, or having to make it up by context, or not knowing the propper word which I do know in spanish. I guess that's the price for the one-and-only server. :?

Welcome to my life. I suppose it counts as a flaw that this is basically what my toon gets to do 24/7, or so it seems.

Can people go rag on falsely about the other 3 empires please  :bash:

Why? Lying through you teeth and/or exaggerating/twisting facts about the Fed is a time-honored tradition everywhere. Why should people stop what their toons love to do?

Well, Gaven is an incredibly one dimensional character when it comes to interactions with other people. He is the Amarrian Military Aristocrat archetype. He spends a rather large amount of time reading history and theology and studying archaic forms of killing things. He had a slow transition from Pax Amarr to Reclaimer over about 5 years. And really not much more. Personal life is completely undeveloped other than that he has an estate on Oris and is part of an aristocratic clan. Off duty personality is equally non-existent. IC he is closed to everyone about such things, so I haven't bothered coming up with what they are for the most part.

I actually don't really find that this bothers me too much. I find I don't actually like most RP interactions particularly fun and prefer to RP with my guns... but its definitely a problem with Gaven from an RP character point of view.

Thanks, Morwen.

Scheduling is certainly a good way to get around the problem, for sure. However, OOC planning tends to sort of break the organic/immersive nature of roleplay a little, for me, which takes a bit of the fun out of it. And I know other people find it even more bothersome then I do.

I have no direction.

Nothing in the EVE lore has grabbed onto me for a while,  and so I wander aimlessly throughout New Eden, not really understanding why I'm still there.

That being said, EVE is the one place a player can build something lasting (Looking at you PIE), I just don't know what to build.

Confirming (again) that one-on-one RP with Gwen is awesome and should be experienced, and that it would be even more awesome if she would initiate conversations more often.  :cube:

- Recently I have become annoyed and a little tired of playing a marginal/unliked character. I usually have a lot of admiration for people playing characters that are usually not very well liked by the  IC echo chambers, and I was fine with it (and I still am somehow). But it has started to become weary. I am in a position where I do not have the time nor the motivation to play enough to be present ICly in channels. So my character maybe appears once in a month (and that's optimistic) in a specific channel not being the summit, and thus has progressively lost all her contacts and people that know her, or appreciate her. Thus I continue to roleplay, but eventually I mostly roleplay a ghost, a shadow of herself. Which incidentally make people believe that she does nothing but open her mouth these days, which is quite free ammo for me, though, since it's not totally true ICly.

- Lyn being completely introverted/asocial/autistic/whatever, it's hard to get into RP spontaneously. I have to MAKE people RP with her, for her to take part in anything. It's logical, but it's very limitating. But i'm mostly okay with it... Mostly.

- My character has not changed nor has really been influenced by myself a lot. Me, however, have been heavily influenced by her over the years. It's scary, and as much as I am still definitely different OOCly (I hope I am not that wicked, pitiful thing), I am not at easy with that.

Since when is Lyn unliked? Did someone not invite me to the hate in?

But seriously, I like the character. What's wrong with her?

As for my characters, I don't RP Mammal much anymore except privately because he's not very fun to play. I don't want to change him, though. Hence why Val is now my main character.

I regret the dearth of time I have to devote to character RP, but there's nothing to be done about that n

This. I like Lyn. More to the point, so does Katla.

I've noticed that Lyn does seem like a social lone wolf, whether by own design, conflict with others or a combination of both. Maybe she's also painted into a corner a bit RP-wise, just like Katla.

She's not universally disliked, though. There are at least two people who like her, and I'm sure there are others, too.  :cube:

I think the major issue for me right now with Veikitamo in playing her is that she seems very much to have become an Executive in her High Tower. This is probably due to a couple of factors but the main one for me seems to be the fact that due to her predilection to wearing social masks and facades she seems to have the ability to have people see whatever they want in her. This, combined with a consensus of people I've asked about the character telling me she's something along the lines of an, "Intimidating Caldari Ice Queen," means very few seem willing to interact with her privately and the fact that that the woman's preferences in discussion are rarefied along intellectual lines such as business, politics, culture, philosophy and history means she has very little interest in engaging with the majority of capsuleers as she sees them.

I certainly can't change her now to satisfy my desire to interact/RP with others because in trying create a character along the paradigm of, "Typical Deteis Executive", Veikitamo remains emblematic to me of the type of Caldari who in being well versed in knowing how to wield power and authority often become lonely and distant figures seen from afar because the vagaries of command, duty, and responsibility means very few are permitted into their inner circle of trust in order to know and understand them on an personal or intimate level.

I guess it's a bit of a double edged sword for me, because I personally find Veik a complex and interesting character to play even if it sometimes means being a bit of pariah due to her personality. I suppose in the end if people interacting with her think, "Well, that's exactly how I'd see a Caldari company woman to behave," then it's fine by me, even if she has very few people she'd consider friends.

You don't tell. I almost have the same problem with that. Not yet into the "federal loyalist" look, but sometimes I fear that I get very close to it through the public image.

Oh yes there are still a few. And the lone wolf thing is by design as well as social incompatibility, yes. The main difference is that she once had people supporting her on public avenues, now it's mostly just is "just bash Lyn". It's not devoid of logic. Kind of what Seri is going through, even if it's ten time worse for him.

How people answer to her in public avenues has radically changed over the last year, which is weird since she got a lot softer on the IGS for example.

Perhaps Shin can help bring her out of her shell, then. Shin has no time for Deteis reserve, an extremely deep knowledge of Caldari culture (courtesy of a long and intensive education at the hands of Omerta Syndicate's Vassili Zaitsev), and an awareness that her role within Pyre allows her a certain flexibility outside of that of a traditional employee.
