They have a director. They are genuinely doing this, using the stories submitted to the 'True Stories' website as plot lines.

They've gone for the TV series over a film because of the successes of dark, gritty series such as Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead, and also the fact that Hilmar doesn't think you could possibly fit the scale of EVE into one, 90 minute movie.

Hm. So ... sort of, "True Crime: New Eden," not so much with the ensemble cast and the "Battlestar Galactica" -style deep exploration of complicated subject matter with accompanying enormous expansion of available lore?

Or am I misunderstanding the creature's nature?

I know I sound like Eeyore when it comes to CCP but...

They are genuinely in the early stages of this. There's a long journey between that and getting a TV miniseries or series (we heard both) onto your screens.

CCP has got its mojo back. This is both invigorating and disturbing. There are some fantastic visionary ideas coming out of the company at the moment: the sorts of things that make you weep for dreams of space flight you had as a kid. There are lots of them, despite "Focus" supposedly being CCP's current theme. And CCP Seagull talked strategic planning at us (even if was the once-over-lightly you give to a conference audience) which got me all hot and bothered. They might actually be getting their act together enough to agree shared visions and deliver products. But I'm going to hold off on the celebrations until they do deliver.

Knowing the way that most TV pilots end up, I'm not holding my breath.

Animation is the way to go, considering budgetary constraints.

Ghost in the Shell style, or possibly CGI.

Live-Action would cost.... well it would cost too much to do EVE justice without green-screen a palooza

While I do think the 'true stories' aspect is certainly interesting, I think I'd prefer the storyline plot being animated.

I'm probably biased, but I always thought EVE is a pretty decent universe to make a mini-series about.
I think the WoD setting is even better for that, but one IP at a time, I guess.

Also, EVE comic, yo! :P

I'm taking the wait-and-see approach with this. Uncertainty of development aside, I'd like to see what stories they decide to draw from.

I like the implications of Gallentians being punched in the face by walking up to a Minmatar as they so freely use another person's culture as a fad.

I'm guessing we are going to see a lot of greenscreen. Should at least be interesting, whatever the production quality.

Animation is, AFAIK, pretty expensive, isn't it? At least to get up and running? At least, more expensive than live action where you aren't paying for lots of special effects beyond some greenscreening?
