Just finished the game myself. Wowzors. Great game. Awesome universe. I really like the concept behind Cloudbank and all the possibilities. It is almost a utopia, but not really a utopia. Bittersweet ending.
As an aside, I could totally see a Gallente city being similar to Cloudbank, minus all the instant constructing/deconstructing stuff.
Loved it. Played it through twice (though it's been a while, now).
I'm not sure what others thought, but it seems to me that Transistor, in its entirety, is already set inside an upload civilization. Much is explained by this: the instant construction, the "creative" economy, the power of the transistor, the nature of the enemies-- heck, the designer reality. The one exception is time: apparently this is a virtual reality where people do nevertheless age.
If this is the case, the "transistor" itself is not a gateway to anything new; it's a disruptive force, and a gateway to somewhere else with, apparently, at least one different rule, but not to a fundamentally different reality. It's not an upload device; it's just a connection between virtual realities.
