CSM Pre-election open!
« on: 26 Mar 2013, 18:15 »

You can endorse one candidate here.  Candidate must secure the endorsement of 200 individual accounts to appear on the final ballot, unless the number of candidates securing the support of 200 accounts is less than 28, in which case the ballot will be filled with the next highest ranked candidate until 28 slots are filled.

I have to say at first glance I'm not seeing anything there that enthuses me.

A bit like real politics.

Mangala for Jesus 2013 tbh.

If only because he is regularly exposed to the widest demographic of players, be they nullseccers, low seccers or supposed carebears out to prove something over a weekend of pvp.  Lots of good candidates this time, but having contacts with a candidate whose views you share really does improve the process.

make them socialise, make them work for your votes.  text is easy, speech is hard when you need to convince people of your intentions - I strongly advise making your votes work for you by pressing on the people who pique your interest and promoting the idea of teamspeak/mumble/vent quorums to see if they are as good on the mic as they are on the keyboard.

Politicians as a rule lie or conflate their positive points.  VOIP and face to face contact doesn;t prevent this - but it certainly makes it that tiny bit harder.

its easy to pick 2-3 out of the list, less easy to start ranking them so you know the sequence in which your vote will need to be posted.

And I am going to abstain as usual to deny the system, yay. \o/

Better to contribute to the abstaining masses that are actually proof of the stupidity of the system than contributing to a thing I find utterly idiotic.

And I am definitly not going to lose hours reading every piece of propaganda they write either. Now to vote, not only you have to actually read their ideas, but you also have to go into the hassle of sorting several of them out.

I simply do not have the time to spend on that kind of crap tbh. I put my trust in CCP, the ones with the actual skills, to decide what is good or bad for the game, not in a lobbyist, useless, non representative CSM.

Your loss.  Personally all it took was talking with a prominent community member I enjoyed flying with on the odd weekend, and joining the people saying he should run when he started to get a level enough IRL situation to guarantee delivery.

Democracy isn't representative for anyone whose representative isn't voted in - it's the nature of the beast.

Not voting is showing that you either are an ostrich, or either disagree with the system.

you do not disagree with the system if the system still affects you, much like RL democracy, to disagree with it entirely, you need to go live elsewhere.

You do not go live elsewhere when only a few points are contentious to your eyes indeed.

There might be some confusion as to what the CSM actually is and its impact on game design.

I know none of these people, and I've never heard of any of them before. BLUF; not going to vote for someone I've never heard of before.

No, but tbh I'm not as well-connected with the greater community as other people here. SYNE is a very small corporation in a very small pocket of the greater RP community. We're not dialed in with the larger nullsec alliances, and I personally have had no contact or interaction with them. Ever. (At times like this I think of it as more of a hindrance than anything else...)

Trebor Daehdoow is Robert Woodhead, the designer of the Wizardry games.  He has been on the CSM for the past two years.
