Admirals are quite often political and are expected to voice their opinions at least some of the time. Whether this is "out of line" or not doesn't matter, because it happens regardless. Read the international news once and a while. I guarantee you at least once a month there is an example of this making headlines.

I think getting up in arms about this character is kind of silly. We're talking about characters here: those fictional constructs whom are meant to have flaws if they are thought out at all. And I will add this: Subtext is not always easy to convey in real-time text-based communication and so I think the choice to make this admiral highly politicized was not necessarily a bad one. This is an event character, after all, not someone who will likely appear in novels or chronicles through which we can see the circumstances for why she's such a bitch.

I fully appreciate the anger among Caldari players for what has happened from about 2007 onwards. CCP brought in people who were out of touch with the company's foundational fiction. But this is 2013, Tony G. is gone, and I'm going to have to defend this one. Things don't turn around overnight simply because you will it.

I suppose I'll have to rethink my attitudes about this actor then. You all make very good points. Perhaps I am too quick to harshly judge.

Sorry, I realize that's a group achievement.  Still, achievement unlocked.

My assumption was that those who have earned a prestigious position in the State are free to speak their mind. It is a meritocracy, after all. Those at the bottom must keep quiet until they have earned the right to speak.

The dissonance between the above and the more Western interpretations of the State is downright confusing for a new Caldari RPer. I have seen support for both interpretations on this forum almost in equal measure.

So what's good for the goose is not necessarily good for the gander?

There's a difference between a corporate leader and a military leader though -- active duty military personnel, especially in a state like the Caldari State where everyone is super-paranoid about anyone having too much power (...or at least, you know, until 5 years ago when they had a dramatic change of heart...) are not supposed to weigh in on civilian affairs. Corporate resignations are not national security matters unless you stretch that definition pretty far, and if I was a megacorporate executive right now, I'd be getting very nervous and talking to my peers about yanking on the Navy's chain...of course, evidently they don't care about being steamrolled by anyone anymore, so...welp.

Perhaps Heth or the Broker could have replaced or coerced some people in the Caldari Navy a while ago? Yes, that sounds ridiculous now, but even though most of what Tony G. wrote was ridiculous its still a springboard for the current state of things. The louder and more obnoxious U-Nats are, the more likely they're going to be marginalized eventually.

This goes back to my previous comment about things changing overnight. That's the way Tony G. wrote events, but that's bad writing, even as a tie-in to a video game. Therefore, you're not going to necessarily see CCP pull this fast one again just to set things straight, the way you the writer/roleplayer/fan want it to be.

Just a thought.

I understand that, but I've been waiting five years for someone with power to actually speak up and dare Heth to do something...I'm getting tired of waiting for someone in the State to show a little backbone. :/

I still think that you guys are being wildly optimistic in assuming that CCP is going to turn the Caldari fiction around. For all we know, they think they've been far too kind to us. I wouldn't be surprised if we all try to get rid of Heth only to have another, even worse dictator from the Navy or something.

Instead of "Executor", we have "Generalissimo"

I think it is a very real possibility.   :bash:

I think Jade's dead on with this one.

The glaring flaws on display are simply indicative of the glaring, flawed people running the show.

I can assure you that the chambers of RL power would be no less shocking were you and I ever made privy to them. In EVE as in life, narcissistic power-hungry cockgorgers are usually the only ones willing to hatefuck their way to the top.

Goodness though, don't go thinking we're immune. You'll never transhuman your way out of that particular core element of the species.

Perhaps the npc is supposed to be out of touch, flawed, patriarchal and dismissive of capsule pilots? Just a thought.
