I am back
« on: 01 Feb 2013, 03:28 »

Hey,

I got some more free time around my work schedule, in which I do not have access to my own hardware; so here I am to feed the addiction while away from the client.

I also felt it may be beneficial to have a presence here so that people can tell the difference between 'proud-but-bigoted space fascist Solarienne' from the guy behind the screen.

As a quick breadown my characters are;

Solarienne - Provist, CPD loyal Caldari who pretty much sees the rise of the provists as 'about damned time'.  Is aware they are likely on borrowed time due to internal pressures, hence recently starting to speak out in an attempt to out more provist capsuleers in the interests of riding out any potential power shift.

Aelisha - Federation raised disenfranchised reborn Intaki.  Moved to the State because the sense of order and regulation appealed to her, and it certainly hasn't done her business any harm.  Mild mannered but firm, Aelisha has key investments in several capsuleer State-loyal operations and is the majority shareholder of TODEA, a dust514 mercenary cadre that has declared for the State and CPD.  Ael identifies with the Practical bloc.

Noboru Tahvo Toivonen - Long time work partner of Montenagre and a retired Logistics and Administration specialist from the Home Guard, Noboru holds strong patriotic ideals, but unlike Sol believes that one should only speak positively; so as to unbalance an aggressive foe and to curry favour with those less guarded against other's words.  He is a thinker, and with his capsuleer implants he is considering becoming a fighter again.  He is prone to the prejudice many State citizens feel towards other cultures, but his calm demeanor tends to keep social faux pas at bay.  he understands that as the CEO and representative of TODEA, even if he wished he were only addressing Caldari interests, he has to recognise he is on the world stage when he speaks.

And a little about the player;

Some of you have met me at Veto London meets previously, or will do on the 9th of this month.  I am a late twenties research engineer, currently pursuing my PhD and enjoying the combination of freedom and gut lurching fear that comes with the territory.  Unlike in EVE, I am pretty apolitical, more out of 'being too busy' (lazy) than any ideological concern.  I certainly don't feel strong enough about anything to find the CPD an attractive prospect outside of the EVE client.

I have 15 years experience of roleplaying games, of which 10 probably counts as more than derping around.  WOD is my primary pnp, but Rogue Trader features heavily, with a scattering of Cthulu Tech and Nobilis.  I am a big fan of characters who align with a cause, and the cyberpunk feel of the State and Federation have pretty much ensured that the continued conflict between these two similar-yet-estranged cultures is where my rp focus will be regardless of location and employment within the cluster.

Currently, I play EVE and dust514, with a bit of Assassins Creed (mainly just for completeness sake) and Skyrim when I have the time (rarely).

So that's me.  Looking forwards to getting stuck in again and I have the Prozac on standby to self-moderate in the face of 'lol internet'.

Aelisha! :D

I'll admit I saw a few Sol posts on the IGS recently and wondered if Diana Kim had cloned into the wrong body >.> But don't worry, Kala still thinks she's cool :P

Heh Sol's always been a bit of a purist, but with this current 'uncertain times' a measure of trepidation about her favoured CPD losing it's grip is making her a bit more vocal.  Once the situation resolves, for better or worse, she'll quieten down again as she isn't awfully politically active outside of 'Caldari values for Caldari, Jaiji go home' mantra stuff.  If the State ends up being more liberal, she's just going to have to grin and bear it (or go full on Templis vigilante) - tough luck for her eh?

How have you been?  It's been a while since you took your leave.

I've been surprisingly good, considering I've had to actually talk to people :P I've somehow even managed to get a girlfriend o_o But I'm still following Eve pretty closely, regularly posting here, watching the sov-map and theory crafting fits for the re-done BCs :) Hopefully I'll be back sometime, but I think the absolute earliest will be late July, and even that isn't very likely. So for now I'll just haunt the forums \o/

Are you still going on the RvB gankeds? I had the idea of attempting to FC one via a livestream and seeing how quickly everyone died xD

Infrequently atm, but I do try to make it.  Combatmink is running the next one, so it should be good - Mangala is off on holiday right now.

Also did you know he is likely running for CSM?  I know where my votes are going!

You should - the other candidates I would support are dead certs pretty much, so I think his 'worldly wisdom' will add a nice middle ground to the special interest reps.

Politics aside, the eve backstory is getting interesting.  I might start taking bets on how long Dear Leader Heth has left in the power chair despite my support of his regime :P.  Hiring Falcon and getting him, Eterne and the other storyline/event devs working together seems to be a stroke of genius thus far.

Aye, and having both Fozzie and now Kil2 as CCP employees means that for the first time in a while there are dev who really understand how pvp works too. Future's looking good  :D

Well I hope they understand how gamedesign work, that's my primary concern.

I think CCP will guide them through their inaugral period, I don't think anyone has joined CCP yet really understanding their in-house style, as an outsider I find it confusing, but it seems to be working.  We'll always have gripes with any product, and I have a few major ones with EvE, but the proof is in the pudding - I still play, and enjoy, the game.  I think these new additions bring valuable insight that, should they hold onto it as they become integrated into the house-style of development, will become more valuable than any of their prior contributions.

A big epiphany moment for me was in deciding to commit to a form of extremism ICly, that I knew would receive more negative responses than positive, and yet still find engagement in the events.  I am no rp/eve-celeb, my contributions are very small, even in my main area of specialisation (trade - my pvp is 'layman' level at best).  But I still found that I could engage with and be engaged by live event actors, CCP events staff and so forth, if I put myself out there.  Sure, I have my moderate chars, after all one PF shift and Sol essentially becomes an untouchable save for a few close friends and hardcore activists, but the point remains - We are being listened to, and it isn't just the loudest that reap the rewards.

That's my main reason for applauding CCP currently, and I hope that what they have revived with the LE team, they follow with the other aspects of development - utilizing the social connections that their staff have left behind to bring development and community closer, but not too close.

CCP has had favouritism outed, suffered the consequences of bad development decisions and seen many a community attempt such as Aurora essentially implode.  Call me an optimist, but I think that they have learned form these growing pains and know that we're the fire that keeps them going as a company, but like fire, they should handle us with care, respect our needs, but not get so close as to get burned by the prior accusations of playing favourites.  They're hitting 10 years of EVE now, I think that they are doing very well at maturing the development/customer relationship and i hope that this continues to be the case.

There is a difference between listening and hiring.

One does not just "guide players through their inaugural period. Gamedesign is a job, and not everybody has the skills and knowledge to do it.

That is what raises a lot of red flags when I see CCP hiring players. Especially since it is about players that are mostly notorious to start with and probably have absolutely no experience in the game industry or gamedesign (when CCP recruitments mostly asks for seniors). To me it sounds more like nepotism and "let's hire my beer buddy I met on fanfest".

Not that I think they are not qualified, mind you, but it is worrying nevertheless.

As long as it works as you say... Well.

Counterpoint:  Fozzies resign of frigates and cruisers and tiericide is the best thing to happen to this game for months.

It's not a counterpoint but yep, definitly.

It's not Soundwave overseeing all of this though ?

Ohai and welcome from the Kaalakiota Club.

Here's some stylish jackboots, because as everyone knows when you've got to repress people for the State you should always do it in style.  8)
