Lots of good work went into the renders, but fwiw I personally hope we never have that much control over hull appearance.

I am perfectly fine with this being EVE's next visual update.

That blue and black Avatar at the beginning ...

Cool vid. Much prefer the notion of corp ship colors to personal ones.

Those corp colours are the ones we'll be seeing on the aurum store. I wonder if his fluff descriptions will make it through?

Doesnt fit at all to the current eve art direction.

But that looks very good, though.

looks very cartoonish and borderlands yeah, not really as realistic as eve is. Not bad though, I sort of like the hard lines, reminds me of early 2000s animated sci-fi, very similar to Titan AE. I sort of like it. Question is, does it run better or worse then current?

Very nostalgic, from the time when all Caldari ships looked like that - gun-metal grey with blood-red stripes.

I'm a little annoyed that the Caldari got that color-scheme, as Grey with Red detail has been among my favorite color-schemes for years, thus making the below on of my all-time favorite images, and I've not even bothered to go check what it's from.

Having said that, as much as I'd love a custom paint-job editor for ships (even for heavy pay in ISK/Aurum) I'm not sure the idea is manageable, and would likely go nasty places soon enough...

... but damn these are nice, nonetheless.

Yeah that's probably coming from the borderlands new trend (don't get me wrong, I love what they did on borderlands).

The good thing with a cell shaded eve like this is that the game would look older a lot less frequently. It already feels old and outdated graphically since the last major model/texture update on ships was done in 2007 (I am not speaking about the small technical updates they usually do with their engine, or the constant changes to ship skins, etc). And since it looks quite awesome already it could really fit to the first art direction they gave to eve, with a more stylized look to their characters, tech, etc. Which does not fit at all to their CQs, portraits, and Incarna current style either. Would be curious to see what our portraits would look like in cell shading.

However, cell-shading is usually extremely hungry in resources and I am pretty sure the game would need a lot of computing power to run with that kind of things. Borderlands, for example, is f*** hungry. Maybe it is not optimized at all, but I feel that the shader itself is extremely demanding.

This so needs to be in the game. Because why wouldn't a multibillionaire fleet owner customise their ships' appearance?
